Newbie that can't decide (Sub or GMT)

Hi all,

As above I am new to the site and would like to hear people’s opinions on my dilemma!!!
I’m currently looking at purchasing my 1st Rolex and can not make my mind up on which one to get.
What would you guys recommend?
I’m torn between the new Sub and the GMT II master!!

As always, go try on, as you will get 100 different opinions here...make it 99, as my vote is for the Sub

Seriously, do yourself the favor and go to an AD and spend time with them, as they really are both must haves for any Rolex owner. One will make you go 'wow' and out will come the credit card...or better yet both!

Both great watches to own as a 1st. Can't go wrong with either.

I'd lean towards the SubC.

Either would be great for a 1st Rolex. My preference is for the Sub; however, it's a personal choice. Take your time in choosing and good luck.

Don't worry, what you are facing now is a very common dilemma. I went for a Black Stainless steel Sub ceramic for my first, GMT didn't even come into the picture until I was deciding between a two tone blue sub ceramic or a two tone GMT for my fourth. Get the one that you like best.

The black sub ceramic is an absolutely beautiful watch. Each time after wearing my two tone or full gold watch for a while I would start to think the stainless steel sub ceramic is kind of plain but when I have it on my wrist again it just shines!

I currently own a Breitling Bentley 6.75 which i wear on weekends, so I want something abit more suttel with a classy look!

I need to have both in front of me to decide i think!!

Got to an AD and try both on if you can. I don't have the luxury of doing that for all the watch I own as AD are too far away from me. I based my decisions on pics after pics, posting up threads reading, up the features and history on TRF and the internet and have not regretted my purchase.

For me the sub . i don't like the green hand in the GMT

Based on Pictures/Info over the internet the Subc seems to appeal the most, however i love the green hand on the GMT as I think it gives that little bit extra??

Go for the Sub C...and if you really want something special, try on the LV.

well, if you are wondering which one is more subtle, i'd have to say the GMTIIc's PCLs, green hand and text and large numbers on the bezel make it less subtle than the SubC.

BUT, the SubC is so instantly recognizable, i don't know if one would ever consider it to be "subtle".

in the end, try 'em on and go with what feels best.

Sub for me, but I have no use for a gmt. I like to keep it simple and clean.

My first Rolex was a Sub. Today I'm trading my second Sub for a GMT IIc.
I think a Sub is a good starting watch for a first time Rolex owner.

Both are iconic Rolex watches. But since I don't dive, and I travel quite a bit, I chose the GMT.

They're both beautiful watches. If you don't travel much and have little use for the GMT function, I'd think the Sub would be the better choice.

Most AD's won't discount a Sub C much if at all, in the forums, trusted sellers tend to ask about $7300 give or take for BNIB examples, LNIB around $6800-$7100. I've seen LNIB GMT's go for $6600. Personally, I'd buy a BNIB here from a trusted seller, and also, maybe it's just me, but I feel safer if the warranty card is stamped, named and dated at the time of purchase from the AD. Even better if the date is recent, perhaps 1-3 months ago.
