Ladies Datejust is gaining time rapidly..
My wife's watch. New in '99, serviced in '08/'09. It will gain time by several hours at a time all of a sudden. It happens at random times, but all of a sudden it is 3 hours ahead. What could it be- I was scanning this site and there was something about magnetizing that caught my eye. All help is greatly appreciated!

Thr hairspring is probably stuck causing the speed up ,bring it to your watchmaker for a dip of the hairspring should solve the problem. Rikki

Rici- Thanks for the help!!!! I called the outfit that serviced it and they told me almost the same thing, though it has been 2+ years since the service, he said he was more than happy to correct anything that needed to be done. Nice to work with a quality outfit, this recommendation was well founded.

Update: Took it back to the outfit and they took care of it on the spot.. It was a spot of lubricant that got caught on the hairspring. The cause may have been from shock, they do not know for sure, but it is fixed. The shop is Vilicich Watch and Clock- good guys. The watchmaker there studied in Europe and in Los Angeles, got his degree in watchmaking (forget the name of the degree)after WWII- he and his sons are all Rolex guys. They have an old shop and a long list of clients and alot of history. I recommend them highly.

Have to agree could be something very simple like oil on hairspring.
