"Pan-Am" tv show

anyone looking forward to this show?
i gotta say i love this time period, maybe the glamorized view of how life was in the 60s, a la the show "Madmen"
wouldn't it be great to pour yourself a whiskey in the middle of the day in the offfice and not get funny looks from coworkers or call the receptionist "honey" and not have to sit through a sexual harassment workshop?

Plus, my office was so smoke-filled I could barely recognize people walking by my door.

It is convenient to glamorize the past. But, it was not all that you may imagine. I remember a black man selling door to door in my neighborhood and my neighbor running out with a shotgun to chase him away. I remember women getting paid 1/2 salary because they might get pregnant. I remember real estate agents making sure no house sold to people of color. I remember a nation in angst because a Catholic was running for President and he would put the church first. I remember cops "unofficially" making sure that non whites only traveled on specified roads on their way home to Pasadena after cleaning homes in our town.

It was a time of innocents compared to today. But, it was also a time when only old white men held power. No one else had a chance. We have given up a lot with our so called political correctness today. But, the world is a better place to live for those who are not old white men. Which by the way I now am.

I still like 1963 better than 2011...cars,economy, cheap education
plus college degrees really meant something....today it a money making racket.

I was born in the mid 80's, and I think the current times (90's - up to now) SUCK. I would have loved to have grown up in the 60's / 70's !

I think it's an entertaining show, and it's not intended to be a comprehensive look at life in 1963 . . . just like TV shows set in 2011 only show a slice of what life is like today.

It seems like it would have been a pretty good job working at PanAm in that era though . . . fewer people could afford air travel back then but for those who could and those working for the airlines, it seems like it was different than the flying bus experience of today.

As someone else said above, "well said."

I will say that growing up in a Pan Am household (my dad turned wrenches on everything from 707s to 747s and worked on prop planes even before that), the show brings back fond memories. I'm sure that as a kid seeing the pilots and crew wear GMTs fueled a subconscious desire for such a watch, that went unfulfilled until just recently (when I got a modern ceramic version from DavidSW, who was awesome to deal with, btw).

What I liked from the debut was the intersection of the individuals with what's going on in society, the Cold War layer. Should be interesting, but I for one will be waiting patiently with the women for times to change.

As a father of two daughters I would have to say no.

Getting back to the TV show Pan Am, it certainly is not in the same league with Mad Men, which is probably what the producers were trying to capitalize on.
