Tiger Woods & Rolex - new deal
Didn't know if this had already been mentioned... if so, apologies
By Mason Levinson Oct. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Tiger Woods agreed to endorse luxury watchmaker Rolex Group, his first major sponsorship deal since the scandal that followed the car crash in November 2009 that led to his admission of marital infidelity and divorce. Terms of the golfer’s contract weren’t disclosed in a statement on Geneva-based Rolex’s website. An e-mail seeking comment from Mark Steinberg , Woods’s agent, wasn’t immediately returned. TAG Heuer, the Swiss watchmaker owned by LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA, ended its endorsement agreement with Woods when their contract expired in July. In the previous 19 months, Woods lost endorsement deals with companies including AT&T Inc ., Accenture Plc and PepsiCo Inc.’s Gatorade brand. The 14-time major champion has maintained commercial contracts with Electronic Arts Inc ., Nike Inc ., Upper Deck, Berkshire Hathaway’s NetJets Inc., and TLC Vision Corp. He began promoting a muscle-relief heat rub made by Japan-based Kowa Co. in June. Woods, 35, this week dropped out of the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings for the first time since October 1996. He hasn’t won a tournament since the 2009 Australian Masters, a week before he crashed his car near his home in Florida. He was alone in the vehicle and had no major injuries. Hampered by Achilles tendon and knee injuries, Woods failed to qualify for the U.S. PGA Tour’s playoffs this season. For his career, Woods has 71 PGA Tour wins, third all-time behind Sam Snead (82) and Jack Nicklaus (73). This week he’s playing in the Frys.com Open. “Rolex is convinced that Tiger Wood still has a long career ahead of him and that he has all the qualities required to continue to mark the history of golf,” said the company, which also has had relationships with Arnold Palmer , Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. Other Rolex endorsers include fellow golfers Phil Mickelson, Luke Donald, Adam Scott , Rickie Fowler and Lorena Ochoa, and tennis professionals Roger Federer and Caroline Wozniacki. |

I may sell my Rolex Watches! He is still a scum bag! I am in the Golf business and that is still the consensus throughout the industry. He has not changed that smug attitude.

2 threads have been started only to be locked. A disagreement in opinion is unacceptable. As soon as someone mentions it as a negative, tha tha thats all folks :r ofl:: you can only talk about whether white or black dial for daytona, what kind of discount can be expected, what are you wearing today and what did you get in the mail today. Oh and I forgot, can you play golf with your rolex on. If you want a real debate, go somewhere else. I personally hopes that the NEW AMBASSADOR OF ROLEX never wins another tournament. 5, 4, 3, wait for it, 2............................ Last edited by dalip; 7 October 2011 at 08:51 AM.. |

When I buy my next Rolex, It won't have anything to do with Tiger. Rolex is a great watch, but their choice of a spokesman is terrible

I dont know why its a big deal with this Tiger Woods and Rolex thing. He did a lot of not so nice things behind his wifes back, however he never did anything to me so he aint that bad of a guy. If he doesnt turn out not to be the right guy in the end oh well no skin of my nose.

I think one of the biggest problems we have today is that we accept role models that shouldn't be role models. Kids aren't stupid they see dad cheering on a person like Woods and think it is OK to be like that person. Same thing in other sports. IMO

I have always taught my kids that they can cheer and respect the person's abilities (golf, acting, singing) without cheering and respecting their lives. Sometimes both are in sync and cheerable and respectable, sometimes not. At least my kids can discern the difference.
