Detox massage?

Has anyone had one? Did it work? Did you feel great after? The wife tells me they run $300 or so around here, and you feel like you have the flu for 3 days after. Not sure that's such a good thing. Experiences?

I'd check out the professional literature or at least talk with my MD before I underwent anything like that.

I have had it a couple times Chris, and did feel crappy the next day or so, but then seemed to feel pretty good; I think the key (which they tell you a million times) is to drink tons of water the next day to "flush out" the toxins. The massage, oils, insense, everything was very nice so I enjoyed that. I wish I could tell you it was either a miracle work or it did nothing at all, but my experience is somewhere in between.

Thanks guys, I think I'm going to stick with the traditional for now. Paul's experiences sounds less than earth-shattering :)

Sounds terrible. Why would anyone want to self induce a flu like feeling for a few days?

An MD's opinion is always going to be bias against the use of any technique not sanctioned by the popular mainstream medical associations or government regulator agencies. In fact, most MD's receive little to no training in the area of nutrition, vitamins, and natural health unless they choose to take an elective course in the area. Most medical colleges dedicate less than one day to the topic over the entire duration of the MD's education. I would expect little to no support from your regular MD.

$300 for a detox message? I'd get a regular massage and use the savings to do a herbal detoxification program (work with a Dr. of Naturopathy if you are unsure of going on your own and which product to use).

I personally have herbally detoxed using Dr. Natura products and have life changing results. Standard Process detox programs are also good, but tend to be sold directly through Dr. of Naturopathy.

The first time I detoxed I actually had had physical changes in my body and signs it was working. I was in my early 30's and had a lifetime of poor eating habit that focused primary on processed foods. Early on, I had a week of extreme exhaustion. I had skin eruptions in random places on my body (a physical manifisation of your skin pushing out a lifetime of accumlated toxins). My wife claimed that our bedroom was reeking of chemicals that were breathed and sweated out during the night. Not to mention the colon part of it... but I will not get into the details. After about two weeks into the full strengh of the detox, I exploded into having more energy than I've ever had in my life.

I now herbally detox on an annual basis, but I get no where near the same effect. I've dramatically cleaned up my diet and focus on natural health throughout the year.

I was skeptical when my wife wanted to do the detox and I decided to go along with her. But now I'm convinced, after the physical changes I experienced. When you feel and actually see it working, I no longer believe this stuff is a scam or crap science.

The idea, is that the reason you feel bad for a day or two is because all the toxins are making their way out of your body, and that after they leave you will feel better then before. Is it bunk? Eh, I honestly can't say one way or the other. I've had it done, it was an enjoyable experience but nothing that changed my existance on this planet.
