Incoming!!
After dabbling my feet in a white 1680 and a very nice 5512 early this year, I knew I had to have a red sub and one from my birth year would be an added bonus.
Thanks again to Howie for spotting this beauty and Doc Beaumont Miller and Orchi for answering numerous questions on many, and I mean many, many specimens. At the end, it was this 3M serial with blue-ish & slightly faded insert with a beautifully patina'd dial/hands and nice sized lugs and crown guard that won my heart. This little guy has caused this major league smiling effect on my face... hard to wipe off for the past few days. The search for a 1972 Red lasted 7 months and at the end, I am very happy here. Here are a few scans I snapped while going to the supermarket to pick up milk for my daughter: Thanks again for reading and have a wonderful weekend everyone! Best, Fred |

Fred big congrats. I have been waiting for this thread to materialize. Those crown guards are huge. They look like mountains on either side of the crown. Fat lugs and a killer dial and insert as well. All I can say is it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
