If you like the PAM more then your rolex, why?

This question is only for those who own both to keep it as subjective as possible. Why do you like your PAM more then your Rolex?

I wouldn't say that I like the Pams "better" than Rolex. The times I choose to wear it is because it is more disctinctive in appearance. I generally wear them when I am driving the Italian cars!

I like both but the last watches Rolex made were not my taste.
Not going into details again

So if I could buy a new watch today it would probably be a Panerai

i appreciate the simpler, versatility of the panerai..it is still relatively unknown brand, outside of the watch circle, so it feels a bit more exclusive..whereas my rolex, because of the brand awareness, good or bad, more people own it and i am not sure it feels " special"..granted the rolex is my daily beater, and my panerai is more dress watch, i love the gator straps with my suits...i enjoy their history and will continue to own rolexes and panerai's, unless they become too well known....

It's not that I like one better than another, it's because I like them both.

My favourite PAM is my 98. GMT, Alarm, 42mm, not too big, not too small, easy to read dial, display back.
I prefer that over my LV Sub,
BUT,
I prefer my SUB over my 190. ( bit too big)

As much as I like Panerai watches... They can get abit tedious with their design and offerings.

Rolex has always been a major player in the watch industry and they obviously know what customers want.

Have a 351 and a GMTII-C. I find myself wearing the PAM about 70% of the time now. Why? Well, probably because I think it's more unique. Rolex is becoming a dime-a-dozen, and I do like them, but think the allure of PAM is what keeps me wearing it. I LOVE the 351--gold hands, tobacco dial, etc. I owned Rolex for over 20 years, and finally purchased PAM last year, and just can't get enough of it. Anyway, that's my .02.

i do feel the same about the design of panerai..they seem redundant and while i own one, and i want another, i rather get more rolexes...i suppose i could get a rad, since i own a luminor case, but outside of the case differences, the dial seems too similar to warrant another " luminor"

True and I agree. Unless you are a die hard Panerai fan, IMO - a Radiomir and Luminor of some sort each would be plenty enough

Then again, there are dual choices of painted? Sandwich? Simple? Sub second dial? GMT and so on, as well as 1950 case and non-1950 case, 40mm, 44mm, 45mm, 47mm and "stupidly large" sizes. not to mention different material and bracelet/strap options.

I have a 000 and 210 ATM with "enough straps", and I can't really see myself getting another one in the near future... Unless I bump into a 382 at MSRP

Rolex on the other hand - I get extremely excited about what I will see at every years Basel Fair

I own a Lume 112 and will be adding a Rad soon, then all I need is a Submersible and then I am done :-) many brands to try out there!

Straps are fun & give you that new watch feel for a few bucks.

I'm a cushion case freak. Wish more watch companies used the case, but on Panerai's they have PERFECTED it.

Also the crown guard on the luminor is so distinct and a please to look at.

I don't like the fact that Rolex's are so common (both real and fakes). You go to the airport and it seems like they are everywhere. They are great watches, but I want something a little less common. I say this and I have a Submariner, but Panerai's are what I really enjoy looking at. Straps are an incredible fun aspect of them as well.

X2.

They are just more fun to own over the same old bracelet every day. Owning a Panerai and a few nice straps just gives you options and keeps me from getting bored of a watch.

I also prefer going out and not seeing my exact same watch which happens all the time with Rolex.

the reason i like panerai better than rolex, as well as other brands, is because of the simplicity of panerai. i dont need a dive bezel, tachymeter, chronographs, or precious metals. i like that i can choose a panerai with or without a seconds function. i also like that if i can have a date function without a large cyclops sitting on top of the crystal.

i use my watch to tell time, and panerai's large (and for the most part) uncluttered dials are perfect for me. the unlimited strap options are an added bonus as well.

can't say I agree with that. I think panerai's are far simpler in appearance if desired. No rolex I've seen has a big, clean dial like a basic panerai.

that is why i prefer panerai watches for now. I like having a date but don't like the cyclops. I like the 24hr hand the GMT and expII have, but don't need the 24 hour count around it.

I feel like I can wear my 005 or 112 with everyday clothes. Same could be said about my Sub-C yet I prefer to wear the PAM. It's more comfortable I guess. I still love them all.

I can't say I like one more than the other. I like to wear my watches in rotation but do prefer to wear the 233 more when I get home because the straps are so comfortable.

Hard to say... during office I usually go with this to fit under the sleeve:

Week day nights and weekends, I go the pam route so I can play with the straps!

have a pam359 and a daytona. love them equally. my mood determines what i wear. that said i have been wearing a Magrette bronze lately, as the bronze case and how it is slowly changing colour is awesome.

on another note, my pam359 is currently in service :( will hopefully get it back in a month or so. However if the issue it has is not rectified then i will be getting a refund and buying a DSSD

I like them both for different occasions. Rolex at work and Panerai on weekends. I find that my overall preference tends to switch back and forth over time. They both have a place in the stable.

As others have mentioned it really depends on my mood... but I tend to enjoy wearing Panerai more than Rolex, even though I own 4 Rolexes and 3 PAMs lol. Something about their Luminor case that is just inexplicably sexy.
