Ok....Submariner problem!

Ok guys

Got up this morning and thought I'd go back to wearing my 16610. I got the watch out of it's case and started to wind the watch because it had stopped the day before. 40 turns of the crown...nothing. 50 turns and still the second hand won't budge. (Getting slightly worried)

Then I decided to give the watch a few swirls to see if that will start the movement up. Yet again, nothing. (Very worried)

Finially I decide to shake the watch to see if I can hear anything inside the movement and every time a shake it it sounds like a metallic knocking as well as 'click, click' noise but still the second hand isn't moving at all.

What could this possibly be? The watch is only a 'M' serial and will be 4 years old on the 18th. Also, it was serviced by St.James when it was a year old due to a few problems. But apart from that the watch has been running fine over the last few weeks.

No way to tell the problem based on your description, but it sounds like it needs servicing.

I wouldn't shake it if it were mine. If it isn't starting after a good wind you clearly have an issue with it. I would suggest taking it to a good watchmaker...

I think the Oscillating weight has come loose. Same symptoms as my first explorer explorer. It was fixed in about 20 mins. I hope that's your problem as it's an easy fix.

As the others said a Dr. is needed.

Could be many things but sounds like a mainspring problem or something in the winding mechanism get it checked out.You say it was serviced at St James at a year old what was the problem.?

This happened to me before with my Sub-C. Members on this forum told me that this can randomly happen with the 3135 movement. I wound it and heard the clicking but the second hand was not moving. I banged the watch in my palm, and the second hand started to move again.

I'm sure others will chime in on this one but this only happened to me once. Afterwards, the watch worked fine and even a regulation was completed at the RSC. They didn't mention any issues with the movement whatsoever.

Sounds like a mainspring, find a good local watchmaker, or AD who performs service.

The reason why I had it serviced in the first place was because of a defective mainspring. It would be odd if it's gone again.

Its possible mainsprings do break and are changed as part of normal routine service anyway but get it checked out.And if you have any documentation from Rolex about mainspring change, and if its the mainspring again you should be covered under warranty.

if its the mainspring, you should be able to notice the crown winding much easier. happened to me about 3 months ago.

take it in, get it checked out. good luck!

is it true that the new 3135 movement from 1990 up is not as good as the ones 1989 and below?

I dont remember who i got it from but they said that rolex made some changes and it unfortunately, was for the worse.

I never heard metallic knocking, or 'click, click' from a broken mainspring before.

I still have all the letters from Rolex from when I had it serviced and the warranty they gave me. Only problem is that the service warranty ran out 2 months ago. :/ I'll take the watch to St.James this week and see what's up. Hopefully it's nothing too bad.

Yep get back to St.James's Matt. They'll sort it out in a 10th of the time an A.D would.

Whenever i've been there they've been very good and quick too.

St James will prob sort out for gratis if you take the paperwork

In my experience they exercise their discretion and sort it out ......

I went to St James today. The guy I usually deal with had a look at the watch and said it was something to do with the oscillator and the crown stem. He told me to come back in an hour and when I got back the watch was fixed. He also pressure tested the watch and polished a few scratches out of the clasp for me. All free of charge. :) I couldn't be happier that my Sub is working again. :)

Hooray!!! You cannot beat taking your watch to an independent dealer. An AD would still not have fixed it by Christmas!

St.James's are great. They realigned my ceramic insert for me in half an hour!
Although when I asked him if he could polish the clasp for me he told me they wouldn't do that, only the whole bracelet which I didn't need doing.
