Rolex to stop making Yacht-Master, supposedly
I went into an AD yesterday wearing my YM and one of the sales people informed me that the value of the watch was going to skyrocket due to the fact that Rolex was discontinuing the YM. Has any one else heard the same thing?

And had you been wearing the DEEPSEA, the AD would have told you that the DEEPSEA is about to be discontinued
and if it is true about the YM, I don't think too many of us here would care. There would be more turmoil if the 14060M was leaving than the YM. |

That would be really sad if it were the case, but since I already have one I guess I wouldn't mind too much :)
The piece is interesting because as far as popularity among Rolex consumers, it's very low on the pole - but the minority that do like it, seem to like it as one of their favorites. |

No and I doubt very much that even if it was discontinued (which in itself is unlikely) that the value would "skyrocket''.

Humvee: what angle was the AD trying to take? It wasn't like I was trying to buy one. Why would he lie?

Not sure what his angle could possibly be in this case, but that doesn't guarantee he has any idea as to what he his talking about.

why would they discontinue the YM when the YMII is relatively new, and did they not release a rose gold version not in the too distant past?
Sounds like a plan to get you to buy a new watch, so you can "store" your YM since, now, it will become SO RARE and thus too valuable to wear on a daily basis ;) |

I'm assuming he wasn't trying that angle though. It's probably something he heard and was relaying. Hopefully some of the experts on the board can confirm whether this is true or not. |

I would not trust an AD on something like this, I wouldn't miss it though.

Maybe Rolex went over to ask men and read the watch snob's opinion on the YM (i.e., he says it's a marketing gimmick to rebrand a Submariner with a new bezel/dial) and decided "You know what? Snob is right, let's ditch this model."
Don't flame me -- I like them! And I highly doubt they're going away. It would be nice to see such a fine bezel get an upgraded bracelet to go with it. |

Still on the Rolex site so utter nonsense. Unless of course he has a direct line to the top of the Rolex company... yeah right.

I've heard the Yacht-Master is being discontinued about the same amount of times I've heard the 16600 is being reintroduced....
There's only one question that needs to be asked- can a mod lock a thread whilst wearing a Rolex?

The AD was either mis-informed or he just wanted to make you feel good and also make himself look in the know. What strikes me about this thread is the indifference towards the YM. I would have thought a shinier sub with polished shoulders and midlinks as well as a Platinum dial and bezel would be up most people's street - obviously not!!!

Maybe by discontinuation he meant next year would bring a "facelifted" YM. But at first it would be available in YG or RG, then next year TT, etc. Just like it happened to the Sub and GMT. There should be plenty of time until the manufacturing of the current SS/Pt YM ceases.

this!
My favorite cheesy tactic, is when I ask about a certain model, I get: "OH, well I have one on hold for a customer in the back, but he hasn't taken it yet, so YOU can have it right now if you want!" Well, dang, I better get right on that before that guy changes his mind and grabs it away from me!

The amount of watches I have heard of being discontinued via ADs and the various forums its a wonder Rolex has any models left to sell. And today its sad that many ADs staff they don't know hardly anything about the products they sell and some frequently talk through where the sun don't shine. But the bad uninformed staff in general are lesser to the good Rolex AD staff. And would doubt if any modern day Rolex would skyrocket in price especially watches like the YM.
