Verifying a rolex as genuine?

Hello there am new here. I just wanted to find out how to find out if a rolex is genuine, Or fake. My grandad has passed away just over a year ago and left what looks like a rolex daytona 78488. This is the number printed on the back of the watch? How do i go about finding out. I could post photos if it helps but i dont know what am looking for? Any help would be grand thank you...

Sorry about your Grandfather. Post up some pics of the watch. You could bring it to a respected watch maker near you and take the back off to get a peek at the movement. That would confirm.

Sorry for your Grandfather, ... and for you 78488 isn't a Rolex reference, probably a replica watch.

Excuse me mjclark32? I believe you're mistaken this watch was passsed down to me when my grandad passed away. I did not mean any harm. And only wanted to verify if it was real or fake. I would like more details as i have not got a clue about watches and someone on a fourm just told me that my grandads watch is a fake. Forgive me if im being rude...

I don't think anyone was trying to be rude snoopy.
The watch is without doubt a replica, and I'm not sure what more you need to know.
If reasons are what you're after. Do a quick search of the boards for a black dial Daytona, and you'll see the quality difference.

Apologies if my comment came off as rude, no offense was intended.
