Need some advice

Brand new to the forum and thought I would take a chance to introduce myself and see if I could get some advice. When I was hired at my first airline 15 years ago I bought myself a Breitling Chronospace and have worn it every day since. This watch has been around the world with me more times than I can remember and has always performed flawlessly.

But deep down, as attached as I am to the Chrono, I have always lusted after a Pepsi GMT. Don't know exactly what it is about the watch (you that own them would know more than me) but I always told myself I would eventually have one, the time has come to make that happen. Now I just need some advice from you all to point me in the right direction.

I recently had the chance to pick up a mint "F" series from a local guy but when I had the chance to try it on it just didn't feel right. It might have been just me (that is why I'm looking for advice) but it felt too light on the wrist. I have also tried on the 116710 which is closer to the "feel" I was looking for but would really like to stick with the pepsi bezel I have wanted for all these years.

With all the models made over the years I am lost as to where exactly I should be looking. I really like the more vintage look of the 1675 but as this watch is intended to be worn daily should I shy away from older models? I appreciate you guys taking the time to read all this and appreciate any advice you may have. Thanks

It's all a matter of preference. You have to try on different models & see what feels right to you. When you find what you like try the for sale section & I'm sure you will find a great watch at a fair price from one of the trusted sellers here on TRF.

Go for the steel and gold GMT-II-C
Feels and looks heavier

Tough one! Firstly welcome to TRF
Aslong as you get a 1675 that has been serviced.. or you get is properly serviced , it will last years and years until you will need to get it done again.
It is not by chance we see so many vintage rolex around. They were and still extremely well built. Just need maintenance like everything else mechanical
The new Ceramic GMT is thicker etc etc and a very different style to the 1675.
In the end i would say buy which one you prefer.
You could also look for a 16760 'Fat lady' production circa 1983-88 . They are a bit thicker and also you could get a pepsi insert for them ( most were sold with black and red)

I own a Breiting Steelfish. With the solid link bracelet it weighs more than a "classic" Rolex -
be it a Sub or a GMT. But weight is not everything. I love my Steelfish, but my 16610 Sub gets substantially more wrist time. Why? It is more comfortable on the wrist - and there is something about a Rolex that cannot be put into words. Wear one and you will understand.

Don't confuse the weight or mass of a rolex as the defining characteristic as compared to other brands. There is something...else....to them that is hard to describe (at least for me). I've owned numerous Breitlings and heavier models, but I ALWAYS have a few rolex SS models in my rotation. If you get one and get used to the lighter feel I have confidence you'll settle into it. For me, I sold my last Breitling and got a pepsi GMT II. It took a few days to get used to the lighter feel, but its one of my watches I would never part with. As i always say, it's a blessing to have the curse of deciding which luxury watch to wear, so don't take it too seriously! And best of luck in your decision!

Can't beat a Breitling (esp with digits!) for functionality. My B1 does it all.

As a fellow aviator I too must confess a deep respect and admiration for the Pepsi. I admire it's heritage as a commissioned timepiece for Pan Am by Rolex. It's also a modern classic, with one of the first truly functional multiple time zone displays that could be set easily and quickly by the user. I'm also a big fan of the "Coke" version.

Matter of fact, it was while out shopping and trying on the Pepsi and Coke that I decided to try on the IIC (ceramic) version....I got the bug and picked it up on the spot. To me, the IIC was just so much more superior in many respects to the older GMT. Maybe someday I'll move on the older GMT, but happy for now with the newer version. I understand why you had the impression of the older F series feeling "light" on the wrist.

If that's truly the one you want, I wouldn't let that dissuade you. That thing is a tank and will last forever.

I try not to compare by Breitlings to my Rolexes etc....It's that old "which one of your children to you love the most?" traps. When it comes to my watches, each company and model represent something unique and different.

Dig around here and you'll find that one of the most popular rumors is that Rolex will be introducing a ceramic version of the Pepsi "...at the next Baselworld watch fair in the spring." I've been hearing that one for the last several years.

Wouldn't that be a nice decision to have to make!

Thanks for all the advice guys, I really appreciate it. I'm going to follow ayecarumbas lead and try on a 116710 to see how it feels. Going to look at a 16750 as well just to get a comparison. I am brand new to the Rolex world but realize that, as many of you said, weight does not equal quality. I guess its all about finding the one that sings to me and just feels right when I put it on the wrist. Considering I have worn my Chronospace for 15 years straight I have a feeling this GMT will be my daily watch for a long time making it all the more important to find the right one. it would appear that the only issue you have with the older GMT is the "feel" of the weight on your wrist. after so many years with a heavier watch, it would obviously feel strange to wear a lighter watch but you might actually like it after a few days of use.

if you are drawn to the pepsi bezel, maybe you should give the older model a try before going with the GMTc.

For the stainless GMT's, any real change in the weight is coming from the bracelet. I don't know when the solid link versions became standard with GMT's.

Welcome to TRF. I see you already have lots of input on the GMT choices - but I have a question...

Did you use all the functions on the Breitling Chronospace for work related activity? The BC & GMT are both good utility watches with different goals.

...and couldn't be happier. After trying out numerous others as soon as the IIc went on my wrist I knew it was "the one". I was going to buy it through one of TRF's sellers but made the decision that I wanted to be the first (and hopefully only) owner of this watch. The whole experience at the AD was outstanding and the moment of buying my first Rolex will be one I will always remember. Thanks again for all your input, look forward to being a part of the TRF community

The 116710 newer model is a slightly bigger and heavier watch than the 16710. As toph said you could opt for the even older 16760 Fat lady whic would give you that bigger watch but yet the ability to wear a Pepsi insert which the 116710 will not. Either way you go, a Rolex is made to last for a long time if properly cared for and serviced.

You really can't go wrong with a GMT whether it be an older or a newer model.

Well if you tried it on and didn't like the feel of it, then maybe you should go with the GMT II C. I like the pepsi bezel alot, but the ceramics are gorgeous too!

Love all of these. Great posts and pics. Personally, while I think the Gmt C is amazing, it's not for me. However, it they come out with the Pepsi in ceramic, I will be all over that. I just hope it also comes with the sub style clasp.
