If selling, would u sell too a zero poster?
As the title states/questions, if you were selling your watch here on TRF, would you sell to a zero poster? Even if you excluded paypal & insisted funds were wire transferred / direct deposit.
I know you buy the seller & likewise the seller buys the buyer to ensure the greatest possibility of a smooth transaction, but does one regard all zero posters as possible scammers. thanks |

We all start from scratch... As long as everything checks out, there really shouldn't be any problems.

Well this is a tricky question...
To be honest I don't sell watches but if I had to I guess since wire transferred funds are pretty much "scam proof" I'd probably do it but before I'd get in contact with the buyer in case something in his attitude/way to answer to my questions was suspicious or would make me want to refuse to sell him a watch.

As long as the buyer wires the funds first, why not?

If the buyer pays by wire transfer, and you wait for the funds to clear, then surely its good to go? But it just is weird that everytime I list something for sale on this forum out of the blue come all these zero posters. They surely are scammers. But then again, if I was too list on chrono24.com for example, then what references/history of the buyer is there too be had?

When I reply to these zero posters, saying payment will have to be by wire transfer rather than the 1/2 paypal as listed, and I say its because they have no history on this forum, they all fade away or otherwise they give me a reason everytime as too why that is impossible.

I have sold to 3 new members. I've never had a problem.
As long as you take a wire transfer you're safe. |

Certainly, with two caveats:
Fed wire transfer No non-US sales The "No non-US sales" is my standing rule for ANY sale of any item. And that is not intended as an indictment of the buyers in the other 90%(?) of the world. I'm selling in the world's largest market, there is no additional return available to me for taking on the additional risk and inconvenience of an international sale. Something as simple as "The box got wet in shipment" is easy to fix domestically, maddeningly complicated and expensive to correct internationally. |

YEs, I'll add: wire only...and VERIFY it's a wire. You can't just look online and see a deposit, it could be an ACH deposit which is reversible. Only a wire is non-reversible. You need to CALL the bank and verify which type of deposit it is before releasing the watch.

A large or small post count is no guarantee of honesty, remember Bassethounds. Living in the UK, I would only deal within the UK for the same reasons as those above living and only dealing in the USA.

Two year old no-date sub, mint in box, why go outside your own market? Ian Fleming's mom's authenticated watch with photo and personal note from the author, now that is another story. It may take a world-wide market to max out your value. And of course, this doesn't apply to the true pros (some here) who arbitrage the commodity watches across markets very effectively. But they aren't asking for advice, I'm sure!!! |

As far as I'm concerned anytime you sell over the internet or by phone and not person to person and in cash you are taking a chance. Remember regardless of bank wire transfer or other method it could get lost in shipping!!!

Had a SUPPER smooth transaction with a new and 0 poster not long ago - he texted me to make sure the availability and condition of the watch, 3 texts later, he agreed to wire the fund, only took 10 minutes, never asked me for references, never asked to lower the price...
