My last day visit to my AD and a question

So
Last day I was in Tel Aviv (A big city in Israel) and went to some nice AD
He (well it was she in fact ), let me see and try some nice Rolex's
I tried the ones I love more , the Sub, Sub LV and the Explorer 1 (The only other I really love is the SD, but she didn't have it, some one just got it I guess )
Any way
I have a not so small hand but yet not very big (some thing like 7+ but smaller than 7.5)
The Sub looks really nice, and wear nice, but the magnifying glass just don't do it to me
I have tried the Explorer 1, and BOOM, man it was like the first time in my life I wear a watch, and it feels so good on my hand, but I feel like I wear nothing!!
Also, don't know why, but the bracelet of the Exp just seem much better to me
And the look - I love way more the "clean" look of the exp!! (kind of hard to explain till you see it live)
Also she was willing to do a 10-15% discount for me, so I can get it for a really nice price (as for a Rolex)

So, now I have two problems with it
First
I always used to have BIG diving watches, and for the first time should I get some thing that isn't a dive watch?
Second
it doesn't have a date, is it that dreadful ?!
And third
How reliable is the watch? I am a "hard" man with my watches, and this one seem very "dressy", won't it fall apart ?
and last
it is only 36mm , isn't it to small ? I mean it sure feel nice, but I guess you know the problem, I am used to watches with 42mm and more, so I always thought I will pick up some thing like the 40mm sub, and not a 36mm Rolex

I am in a dilemma now should I pick this one or the Sub ?
(also, at least here in Israel most guys that own a Rolex, don't have the EXP, and all my friends are much more charmed with the SD and sub)

It sounds like the Explorer smiled at you.

Its rugged. No sweat there. Timeless classic, the original Explorer supposedly was on the trek to Mt. Everest.

What I like about the Explorer is that it looks great in a suit or jeans. Its business and casual.

I understand what you mean about the no date feature. I would rather have the Explorer over much higher priced models, but the lack of a date feature has dissuaded me.

I guess that means I'll never get a Daytona! NOT!

Anyway the Explorer is also a nice locking classic watch with alot of history so whatever watch you finally decide on you have made a good choice.

By the way which AD was it ?

I have went to "Azriali mall" (hope you figure out the name) and there was a store there
Also
I have been not so long ago near the main AD near "The Kiria" (can't remember the street name right now)
Do you have some thing better than that?

The problem with the Sub - I love it, but the date windows, and the fact that so many guys have it just make it a little "turn off" for me
Do you know what I mean?
I think the reason I love the EXP, is for the "simple" clean design, and yet it looks like the DATEJUST, but much more "sporty" like so it is kind of cool
I wish it had a date, and maybe been a little bigger (39mm instead of 36)

I think the perfect watch for you would be either the Explorer II which is 40 mm or if you really want that simple, clean, design wait a couple more months for the new Milgauss!!

You can visit the official Rolex website to learn more about the new Milgauss and see some pictures.

I have not seen the model at any AD around my area so I do not think it is out yet. Expect it to gradually appear in select ADs in a couple months or so, then eventually in all the ADs.

The speculation from another forum was that the Milgauss will retail in the $6000 USD range. This is likely because of the special anti-magnetic capabilities the watch has. It does have a 40 mm case as well but with no date.

How is it? do you like the service and prices and so on?

Don't get a watch based on somebody else's opinion..Get the watch that you want..

That Explorer you're looking at is considered to be one of the most dependable watches on the planet. It was designed to be simple, functional, and rugged....You cannot go wrong with it.

It has the exact same movement inside as the Sub non-date....and the Air King.. It doesn't have the same depth rating as the Sub, but it is waterproof for swimming, snorkeling, and shallow dives...

Yep I love it
I think I love it for the more "simple" clean design
It kind of remaind me of more "old" watches, before the time of diving watches and so on
And I think it has the classic look as of the DATAJUST, but more "sporty" one
So
Is it a good one ?
Also, Is it ok to use it when going to GYM,running, army and so on?
Is it as "tough" as they say it is?

All Rolex watches are "good ones" and as someone else recommended, the Explorer II may be a great choice, though it does have the date window that you seem to not like.

Depends if you are a diver and on how much you need and use the date function.

I know a lot of Rolex fans here really seem to appreciate the date function,yet I never bother with it. For one thing, my eye sight is so bad I can' tell if it's the 3rd 6th or 8th.
Even with the cyclops window the date is a blur. Plus I hate adjusting the date it to account for months with 30 days, so I just keep the date in my head all the time.

Plus, if you have had a watch before with date function and depended on it, then you will miss it. But it you have gone this far without a date function, then you probably won't know what you are missing anyway and so can probably continue to live without it.

Also, are you a diver?? I can't seem to tell for sure. If you are, then you might need a good divers watch. But again, me, I am not a diver and I couldn't dream of taking my beuatiful (and expensive subs) into the deep dark ocean. I bought them purely because I think they are beautiful and dependable watches.

If you really like the explorer and it likes you, and you aren't a diver and don't need a date function, then I you can seriously consider it. The final decision, or course, is yours. If you buy it and regret it, then you will be disappointed, so you need to buy what makes you happy and satisfied.

Get the Explorer. It is a great watch and the one that started it all! Very rugged and simple movement. Water resistant to 100 meter so you can still take it swimming and even diving, just not to extreme depths which most recreational dives are not anyways.

Sounds like you like the Explorer and the comfort it has. My Dad has pretty big wrist and has one, and it looks perfect on him. The Explorer was mode for Adventure!

And as for your question of taking to gym, military use, running, etc.. Hell Yes!!! It has been on many mountainering expeditions. There was even a story awhile back of a guy who took his Explorer all the way through Ranger School in 1977. Came out still ticking in accurate time. Now if that is not a test for a watch I do not know what it.

well I am not a diver, and even if I am going to dive, I have other watches for that (or diving computer), so it isn't that important for me
As for date function - just like you, I usually forger to set it up in the end of the month, so if it there it's nice, but I can live with out it

I think I just worry a little bit as for SIZE - I mean I have got used to LARGE watches, so it is kind of "weird" wearing some thing that isn't at least 40 mm

I also come to notice I love the EXP, because the hours markers, I much prefer the "rectangle" shape, and not the "square" like there is one the SUB, also don't know why but the look of the EXP just seem much more "dressy" for me, and I really like it!

Yep, I am not a diver, so 100m seem nice for me and well enough
As for comfort - yep I mean I have tried many watches (Omega, Breitiling, Rolex and so on), but the EXP really just "disappear" on my hand, really nice feeling :)
it is just that I have 7" and more hand, do you think it will still look ok and not to small on me?

And as for how tough it is, well nice to know!

My Dad has 8" wrist and the watch looks great on him! You like the Explorer, get it!

After you wear it a while, other watches will seem way to big. What is really nice about the Explorer is the way the bracelet kind of just blends in with the case.

Yep I agree with you here, like I have told, the bracelet on the EXP just seem to me even better than that of the SUB, it just connect very nice to the watch, and it just like "hug" your wrist, very cool!

But, like you have said, I guess it just like getting used to wear more smaller watches, I am just not used to it
I guess it because of the time we are living when most watches today (take the new Omega PO) are 42.5mm and much more (even 46mm), so you get used to BIG ones

My wrist is more like 7" and I am kind of "thin" man, so do you think I should get it and it will look good at me , even thought I am more used of the BIG divers watches ?
