How many digits in the serial number. It could be a new random serial number. Even if it were produced 5 years ago and sat for 5 years, then this watch should not require a service if it just sat for 5 years.

If by "new Sub" you mean 116610, it can't be from 2007 nor 2008 (Mxxxxxx period). New Sub was introduced in 2010 , first one being Vxxxxxx series.

In that case it should be an 8 digit Mxxxxxxx s/n meaning random serie, and no service needed (one year old at maximum).

Good point Christophe.

6 digits ?? do you mean 6 after the M letter ?

--- What is the model , a SUB ceramic 116610 or a previous 16610 model ? ---
Edit : you answered

So it's a 16610 M serie, from Q4 2007 to Q3 2008 approximatively. If you want to follow Rolex recommandations (5 years), you can wait one more year.
If this watch wasn't worn since new, you can even wait a longer period.

Personnally I don't go servicing until the watch stop working well, or 8~10 years, first occuring.

If it's brand new and not pre-owned then in my opinion the clock should start for your service after you bought it.

The case stamping or serial number is just that a stamping on the case. Since the movement and other parts really make up the watch it's really not possible to tell for certain.

1 million watches sold between M000001 and M999999, all between September 2007 and August 2008 approximately. With your exact s/n you can imagine where your watch is in that period.

It's really approximative, as these numbers correspond to the production date of the case , not the watch itself. The case could have stay in a warehouse before being used. But for a submariner model, I guess the case don't have time to stay in warehouses. They sell well.
