why is this LV $11k?
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=190812
usually, these seem to go between $6k and $8k, depending on SN and condition/completeness.

He can ask all he wants. Whether someone is willing to pay more than $6k is another thing completely.

I think the fact it has been listed since 21 Aug 2011 says it all!

No because it has the price right on there..630,000 yen = $8,200..
I always thought that it was way high also every time I looked at it.. It looks like it does not even come with the original box.. I guess you can ask whatever you want for anything.. You can ask $1,000,000 for a piece of toast with the virgin Mary on does not mean you will get it but you will have better luck getting that then 11k for that watch.. |

I own an m serial. The seller seems to be banking on this being a G and that making all the difference? I think his price is nuts. I paid 6 thousand all in for mine back in 2008 from an AD after discounts and the high tax we have here in Canada. Does anyone want to give me 11 thousand for my watch. I hardly used it? I think not. It is a crazy asking price for this watch.

Well. I am going to put in my two cents. $11000 is a little high, but I can't lie and say I have not considered purchasing the watch if not for the seller's insisting on 11k and not anything less last I inquired. This LV, along with the 3186 GMT 16710 and the V 16600 are the pinnacle of modern Rolex collectibles. I personally have never seen another G serial LV anywhere, and judging by how often (by that I mean never) G and random LV pop up for sale and especially in BNIB condition, there cannot be more than 200 of such specimen on this planet. Of that, how many are being worn right now? I'd say probably most of them, making any BNIB G and random 16610LV the most insanely rare modern discontinued professional watch.
Some people will say "but then what about the 168000... that thing was made only for a year?" Well a 168000 never reached the popularity of the 16610LV, not even close. Lastly, if this 11k LV looked like any other LV, then 11k is truly absurd. But the crystal has the antiglare cyclops and the dial variation is one of a kind, with the short feet markers. I know to many this may sound absurd, but to collectors like myself and many others out there, this LV is the holy grail of modern discontinued watches. If I did not have a lot of my own grails, I may actually bite the bullet and buy it, but fortunately I have a few of my own BNIB collectibles so that this watch is not really a necessity. But without a doubt a G 16610LV would be the pinnacle of any modern Rolex collection, in my opinion. Cheers and happy health. At the end of the day, this whole G and antiglare nonsense is nothing compared to our wellbeing. |

Lastly, I do not think the OP should post it in "Watchout." The price is wishful thinking... but it is not a scam or fraud.

i wasn't trying to cast aspersions on the vendor in question; i was simply genuinely wondering why this particular LV was asking $4-$5k more than every other one i've seen in this forum (i've had my eye on them - i'm still kind of kicking myself for passing on one in favor of a standard 16610).

I still want to know what a piece supposedly from Japan is doing with a Korea code number on the warranty card.
Can anyone answer me that? The code number for Japan is 900 not 410 !!!! Am I the only one to notice this? |

Well your assumption is incorrect.....

From what I've seen, I agree with Kanger. The watch is an anomaly and is quite rare. Is it worth what he is asking?????? Otherwise, all other aspects of the post seem to be legit. |

For one the Bucherer Group.....
They are a very large retailer in Switzerland that has stores in Austria, Germany as well as affiliation with Gandleman in Aruba. A couple of Caribbean retailers are part of larger conglomerates owned by parent companies in India with stores throughout the world.
Do some of your own research if you want to know more. |

He's probably thinking the serial makes a difference. I can imagine it's a rare thing to have a random serial on a 16610LV, but who really cares? Want a rare Rolex? How about a 168000, a watch that no-one really cares for, even though it is rare...
So yeah, you can always "ask" another thing is will it actually sell?

But isn't the number 410 and 900 for the country? Not the AD....?

yeah, IN Asia luxury goods cost more. I heard that a Range Rover went for over $500,000, so maybe this may be the case with Rolex.
Could be wrong though... |

Some countries like Thailand have a "import luxury tax" on certain things, like a Range Rover and watches. Probably to stimulate the local economy. Last time I was in Thailand I checked some prices on watches and they where pretty close to those in Finland.
