Can't set the time - HELP!

I have a Rolex Datejust that is about 8 years old. It was serviced by Rolex about 2 years ago.

I normally wear it every day and it has never let me down....until now!

I took it off on Friday evening and went to put it on this morning (Monday) - it had stopped, of course. So, I went to adjust the time, unscrewed the crown and pulled it out - but it didn't pull out all of the way. It refuses to pull out to the last position (the one to set the time). I can wind it up and that's about it. The second hand has started to move, so mechanically thinks are working. Just the crown will not pull out all the way to set the time.

Questions -

1) Shall I pull the crown out harder (or will this cause damage)?
2) Does anyone know how long the warranty is for after a Rolex service?

The Rolex warranty is now two years after RSC service could be something simple just try working the crown a few times

Thanks for the rapid replies. I will have another go later (when I get back home) - I am lost without my Rolex!!!!

2 years? I will check with Ernest Jones when it was serviced. Maybe lucky!! I really could do without it being sent away again. The service took 16 weeks :-(

The winding crown is a 2 part spring-loaded stem,now when you push it in to wind it this releases it from from the movement so you can screw it down. From time to time mainly from lack of use the 2 part piece in you crown can get stuck. So it could be quite hard to pull it out to the 3rd position. Sometimes just turning it back and throe to reset the crown will make it work again if not then its a watchmaker you need.

Thanks. I just phoned Ernest Jones and that's what they said. It is still within the 2 year 'service warranty'. I am inclined to just take it to them before fiddling with it anymore - since, I don't want to break it more (the crown to come off in my hand, for example)!

That is you best choice.

Well, after fiddling with it some more (I know, I shouldn't have done that!) - it works fine. Had to give the crown a bit of a pull - much more than normal.....and click.....

Perfect!!!!!

Is this likely to happen again? Shall I still take it in to Ernest Jones????

I would hold off and check it out a couple of times over the course of the next couple of weeks. If no further issues, you will probably be just fine.

Yes my DJ was this way the first time I tried to unlock the crown. I took it to an AD so that if they broke it they would be responsible. They simply pulled extra hard, and ever since it has been perfect. Good luck !

Next time you can simply wait until the time displayed is correct and then just start winding it... ;)

`same thing happened to my newly serviced watch and after a couple hard tugs it`s working just fine.

Wait and see it will probably be just fine.

Just make certain to check it again before your warranty runs out so if you still have a problem.......

Pretty much the exact same thing happened to my Sub Date 16610. I kept wearing it but didn't try to adjust anything. After a couple days it's almost like it "reset" itself. Now, no problems. Glad to hear yours is back to normal. Enough to give one a heart attack though!

Unless they add another leap second ;-)

I would think, since you have notified them, even if you messed it up they would still fix it right? It isn't your fault? But maybe it is better not to see! I'm sure you'll have it running in no time.
