Thoughts on OP's tan lume/patina lume/"fakatina" lume

seems like these days quite a few people are getting worked up about panerai's use of tan lume (or, if you prefer, patina lume or fake patina lume or "fakitana" lume ).

personally, i have no issues with it, and, for certain models, it's a nice change from the green "modern" lume. and it can make for nice strap combos, too.

i can understand the argument that it's fake and not genuine, but, i don't agree.

what are your thoughts? vote and explain if you wish.

I reckon it suits their dials quite well. A smart move by OP imho. Let's face it, not everyone can afford a vintage Panerai, and that's if you can find a half decent one. Producing these repro models fills a niche and I'm sure they're 99% sold out already.
More brands will follow suit I'm sure.

I am personally not a big fan. I had a model with the fake lume and I could not warm up to it, it is just weird to me.

have no issues with it - it is a change of scenery from the usual lume colour....

do you know who suggested it was supposed to be "fake patina lume"? maybe it just happened to be the similar colour

I can't vote as I have an opinion, but not one you listed!

I think it can look great, but I think it is being overused.

This has to be a fad right? I mean when did we decide "old is new, and new is old?"
I reckon it works, the fake/ vintage lume works on panerai because while modern, they can still give a vintage look, so the current lume seems appropriate...but it is still too contrived and I would prefer watches or anything that shows wear over time which has more character and tell a story...unlike the current lumes, which states " I want the aged look now! Because I may not have this much longer so no time to wait till it ages.." Its our instant gratification syndrome....

I had the opportunity to try the New Daylight PAM 356... and the Dirty or Vintage lume looks close to orange... I think they can do better than that BUT in the PAM 359 is a different thing... looks Vintage not fake.

I like the option and to have one in the collection with such a patina. However, I wouldn't want more than one and I think Panerai is over doing it on their models. I'd be pretty tempted to buy the 425 if it didn't have it.

well, i suppose this is why OP should make two options available, b/c, for me, the patina lume looks great on that piece. i find it goes really well with the gold hands, and adds a touch of elegance (IMO) to what is otherwise a very simple piece.

the 425, to me, is a perfect example of why i sometimes refer to the patina lume as "tan lume" (as opposed to "vintage" or "patina" lume)....the gold hands, tan lume, black dial and brown strap just work for me as a cohesive design (as opposed to it trying to be something it's not).

would green lume look good with the gold hands? or, would you then need to use WG hands? and, if so, is it still the same watch?
