Your Wedding Band, and Your Rolex...

Let me be the first to say that I've never been big on "blingy" wedding bands.

When I got married ~7 years ago, I got a nice platinum/18k band and wore it for a long time, back then, all I had was a couple TT Seikos. I was at Sam's Club one day about two years later, and they had a cool 14k band for next to nothing, so I picked it up...

Well, in about March of this year, I got a tungsten carbide Movado Valor watch. It was sweet, but I wanted a band to match. So, I got a tungsten carbide band. It accented the watch nicely, as well as other stainless watches. I have since not worn the watch due to the new aquisition of my GMT.

The other night I was on a eBay Live auction and saw something that was too unique not to own. It has to be one of the coolest men's rings I think I've ever seen. So, I just had to have it. I figured that since I was gonna get an 18k/SS Rolex in the near future, I'd "need" a two-tone ring to go with it. Yeah, I know I had one already, but this thing just "sang" to me!

So, what's your take? Keep it simple, stupid, or since it's something that's always worn, why not have something cool?

I have been happily married for 10 years. I never wore a wedding ring. However, I have never heard of someone swapping "wedding" rings out as fashion accessories. I wonder if it is common? My dad and mom were married for almost 50 years. His ring never left his finger until the day he died.

A little Italian myth you may or may not wish to try You see, my wife and I were married in Rome, Italy 6/30/96. I got her a diamond eternity band, she got me what is pictured in my post above. Whilst in Florence she saw a nice white gold plain band that she wanted, of course she gets what she wants so I bought it Anyhow, the point to all this rambling is this, the nice Italian lady who owned the Jewelry store said if the woman's wedding band will fit completely INSIDE the mans wedding band, your marriage will be blissful. So far so good here

She started out with a F/VVS1 princess cut 0.5ct in yellow gold w/ white gold prongs; that's what I gave her when we got married. I couldn't afford much, but it's a damn nice stone/setting. The band was a "cute" little thing with tiny diamonds.

Well, on the way down to Cancun, I was browsing the web on my PDA, and found a helluva deal on a .65ct marquis with a 0.5 two-stone band set in white gold. It was on a gun forum I visit and the guy was NEEDING to sell it. I couldn't turn it down, and she really liked it.

Now, the worst part -- when I got my Rolex, she wanted something, too. So, she ended up with a G/VS1 1ct princess cut in a cathedral setting with small diamonds mounted below on the sides; she also got a 1ct band w/ ten 0.1ct VS1 diamonds.

Even worse -- we've been playing on eBay too much. We got a wonderful deal on another 0.5ct princess solitaire, along with three other diamond rings.

When you thought it couldn't get much worse, after I won the ring above, she saw a 3.32ct princess cut diamond bracelet that she just "HAD TO HAVE". Granted, we looked at something a bit smaller at Reeds earlier that day, and it was $5,530. We couldn't pass up the one during the auction!

I thought I was bad -- she's TERRIBLE!

Recently was married. I opted for a TT ring to match my TT GMT. Have already gotten compliments from a few ladies on the match.

I wear a 18K white gold wedding ring, very simple. Has engraving on the under side that states "Debbie Sep 06 03".

On my wife's eternity band, it states "Vernon Sep 06 03".

The date as you suspect was our wedding date.

I, too, don't wear a wedding ring, although I've been happily married for 25 years.

I just don't like the feel of a ring on my finger and never wore one before I got married. But to make my wife happy, I bought a wedding ring from a friend who was getting divorced about 15 years ago. I lost it about a year later. Then I bought another one about a year after that.

It's been living happily in my desk drawer ever since.

As an excuse, I like to tell the (true) story of what happened to a friend's father when I was about 10 years old. He was cleaning his gutters when he fell off a ladder. His wedding ring caught on the gutter. He fell about 10 feet to the ground; the ring and finger stayed in the gutter.

As implausible as that sounds, that's how it was told to me. And it makes a great excuse not to wear a ring.

I know a guy I went to high school with. He works on a road crew, and often stands on the rear bumper of a truck and hangs on to the rails mounted above the bed.

He jumped off one day when the truck was doing about 10-15mph; his ring stayed put.

Yup, finger gone. I didn't learn about it happening until I saw him at our reunion. I went to shake his hand, and got that errr, something's not right feeling. I asked what happened, and he told me. He put a ring on his middle finger. That's either commitment, or stupidity. Not quite sure.

My wedding rings are platinum so all stainless watches look best and are my preference.

Come to think of it, all of my jewelry is basically platinum/white gold.

I did recently try on a TT white dial daytona. Beautiful watch but too much 'yellow' for me. I'll stick with stainless!

I have a fairly simple but classic hand-engraved gold band, which I wear less and less these days. Once you've been married a while, you can get away with that. After about ten years, my wedding ring started doing an increasing amount of drawer time.

Not being a jewelry guy, I don't care to accessorize.

IMO, diamonds are for women.
