Icon20 Just got it 16800 Sub What do you think?

Well I bought it after some thinking I hope it was worth it. The clasp seems to need some adjustment and bezel does not turn. Maybe just dirty? I don't know.
I thought I was getting a 168000 but it came in the mail and it is a 16800. I was looking for a collectable I hope this qualifies. Is this the original box?
serial is 9.48 million Thanks for your input! $4000 in to it.
Well here are some pictures.

I think it looks pretty good. I would have the bezel inspected because it DEFINITELY should turn. Congrats!!!

Not sure I would classify it as "collectible" though.

I looked at a chart and it looks like a 1986 or 87. because of the 9.48 mil serial #.
Thanks for the thread I am really enjoying this watch it is the same year as my oldest son!

Looking at buying the same model.. Very nice! Congrats! If its just some dirt under the bezel that would be easy enough to fix yourself

That is what I thought I am going to try to lift up on the bezel a bit to see if there is some give then just wash it with water. It was tested for water tight yesterday and it is good.

nice piece. This is a watch stuck between modern and vintage but i love them. Has the look of vintage but reliability of modern. Nice watch and pretty good price so far

I just took the bezel off and cleaned out the sand and now it clicks and turns the way it should!
Yes the patina is very cool and no cracks so far. I heard that this year range is called the spider because the paint was wrong and they develop cracks. So far none of that.

I was told buy the guy who replace the main spring that this was a matte dial. How can I tell the difference? It does look matte but very clean.
My Date Just from the same year is similar in the black Matte clean dial.

great find...

The 16800 is my daily wear watch, I thought I wanted an older vintage model, but with this watch you get:
-a sapphire crystal, so clear
-excellent newer movement
-more modern dial, but with patina

Congrats, enjoy...My box set looks just like yours, and I have a 1984 watch...

Thanks for the input I was not sure that the box was the right one. So that helps!
I think the price is good It needs a little work here and there. a service quote came with the watch as it passed through the hands of a dealer of sorts and he said it would be $700.
He is a Rolex service guy on Vancouver Island. I will wait for a while before I go there.

agreed - the 16800 is a sub with no home...not vintage and not modern. I think it has the best of both worlds and for some reason tends to patina more than other model. The patina inspired me to put it on a brown leather nato which I love and it is my daily wearer.
