Will Rolex update the Sub?
I’m contemplating a TT Black Sub.
But before I rush into anything I though I would ask does anyone know what is Rolex’s plans for the sub? Will they be updating it as they did the GMT? I love the ceramic bezel on the new GMT. Will this make its way onto a new sub design? |

Nobody knows...I think a new ceramic bezel for the Sub is a distinct possibility. Seems only logical.
Though Rolex has not shown a lot of logic lately. |

My prediction is:
Maxi Dial New hairspring Ceramic Bezel New clasp Supercase Increased Depth Rating (this is a long shot but what the heck) BUT NO POLISHED CENTER LINKS |

Arron,
If you like the looks of the GMT ceramic bezel, why don't you just get the TT GMT ? Probably 90 percent of the population couldn't tell the difference between the GMT and the Sub, even if you pointed it out to them.. Holding off on a decision because Rolex "might" change something is just delaying your own self satisfaction in owning a fine timepiece. If you like it...go for that TT Sub now.... The price isn't going to get any better.. |

That would be my guess. I don't know about the depth rating. Hope you're right about no polished center links.

No profesional watch should sport the polished links.

Although I don't have an insider track to Rolex information, it would seem like a good bet to think they will update the new submariner, probably similar to the LV Sub, with the maxi dial and the other improvements they have already made to the other models. When will the new version come out? I am guessing this year. Will the new model be preferred over the old and how will collectors price them? It's anybodies guess, but I am going to predict that people will adopt the new over the old. This is my take, for what it's worth.

Many of us here do not see this as an "improvement." In fact, I was prompted to by a Sub Date now to avoid this possible change!

Rolex are always refining and updating their range. I would be exteremly surprised if things in the Sub range stay as they are. As to what kind of timeframe, who knows.
Whatever is in the pipeline will (as always seems to be the case) be unveiled at the Basel fair I guess, but what year? |

The Sub might get updated, but FIRST the YG version, THEN the TT version and FINALLY the SS version (at least this is what happened as the GMT II got updated).
But I don't think the Sub will EVER get polished centre links, but very likely it will get the ceramic bezel (more scratch resistant). It will VERY likely get the Maxi Dial, too, but again I cannot see why Rolex would alter the depth rating.

Don't forget 'ROLEXROLEXROLEX' on the chapter ring. I'm pretty sure all sport watches will be going this route.

Don't think for a minute that all these upgrades will be free. I expect Rolex to increase the price by more than $1,000.

I like the 16610 as-is. The upgrades mentionad are very, very nice and do a lot of credit to other models, IMO, like the excellent new GMT. However, I also don't see the upgrades as improvements when applied to the Sub. I'm glad I got mine when I did.

So am I, Jamie, both for you and that I got an "unspoiled" Z-series Sub Date myself

I am always in favor of quality improvements, but not drastic aesthetic's.
