Rolex has many models much more than that. It wasn't even the most expensive model released this year by Rolex at Basel. Anyway when most think of Rolex they think of Sub or DD president.

Rolex's flagship is the DD IMO. The Sky dweller is whatever.

The DD is still the flagship model for Rolex.

That Breitling hurts my eyes, maybe without the globe it would be better.

I would say that in terms of price, possible exclusivity, size, and complication this is the new flagship for Rolex.

Stupid expensive. I'd rather buy this...
I would still have around 10 Grand to either buy another GMT or Travel.

not sure how Mr. Rolex will be positioning the Sky-Dweller in the Rolex hierarchy... would be interesting to find out
will it only be available in precious metal, like the DD/DDII? |

If the sky dweller only available in precious metal, then it is for sure the new flagship. In term of price, it is a lot more expensive than the dd2. The new flagship entry level ie to join the sky dweller club ticket price will be more then usd40k+
Any news about future ss models? I am interested in getting one in pt for my hubby ASAP. any idea when will they be available? Thank you very much for your kind feedback. Cheers! .. Jennifer |

The Sky-Dweller will no more be the flagship than the Yachtmaster II was... That job belongs to the historic DayDate...

Not sure if the SKY-DWELLER will be the flagship as there is no platinum model so far.

I could certainly see this as the new flagship of Rolex. We will have to see as only time will tell

My brother in law sold off his 18KYG YMII few months ago cos he felt it is no longer the flagship in rolex sport range since the launch of the 18KPG/SS YMII. He trade it in for PP5980R. DD/DDII on the other hand had always been in precious metal since its launch in the 50s.
I think it is a good thing he sold his YMII. That watch is a complete safe queen. I did borrow it a few times on holidays, the white dial and the complication is just not warming up to me, I just don't like it. Did it mention it is huge and very heavy? I much prefer my 116618 blue. - Jennifer |

disagree that skydweller will be flagship base on price alone
remember yachtmaster II launched years ago at the highest price ? until now its not a flagship model imho, submariner and daytona will always be the flagship models |

Even though I drool over the Sky-Dweller, I am digging that Breitling and in fact am considering getting one.

Well speaking for myself even if the sky dweller was made in SS and was say the same price as a Sub, I would still buy the sub.The sky dweller is just not my type of watch, and even if I could afford one its extremely doubtful if I would buy one. And today the so called flagship models are all down to type of metal diamonds etc and price. Most of the Rolex line up today except the Chronos and the sky dweller are all based on the cal 3135 with or without added complications.

Sorry don't get the sky dweller or the Breitling either (in fact just about any Breitling, read on), I fit the category that a flagship watch is the one that defines the brand so to me it is a Sub or more likely DJ for a Rolex (whether it is the most expensive or not, just ask Porsche re classic basic standard Carrera 911 vs Panamera Turbo which they feel is their flagship). Why do I need to know the month etc on my watch, I would have to have had a serious bender not to know what month of the year it is, OK I have lost the occasional day with a big bender but never a month.
I am fan of classic under stated watches (ref to Breitling), its why there is nothing PP make that I don't love and will save hard now to add that next. I cant begin to understand why I would buy a Sky Dweller over a PP or a nice Breguet, but I am sure some will like them to each his own. It is what makes the forum special, variety is the spice of life.
