Settle this Dispute

I have a Rolex Date that I bought new in 2004 and just love! Anyhow, my co-workers said that my watch (34mm) is too small for my wrists (8 in dia).

Please settle this dispute:

1. Is the Date Rolex a ladies watch

and

2. Is this watch too small for a man's wrist

First off, wear whatever you want and to hell with what others think.

That being said, I think 34mm would be too small for me if my wrist was that big. My wrist is a bit under 7" and I find an Airking to be on the small side for my taste.

I thoroughly enjoy a couple of size 34 watches on my 7 1/2 inch wrist and wouldn't give a warm bucket of spit for what anyone thinks of them.

You can:
1) tell your co-worker to stuff it; or
2) take higher road by laughing, retorting that's pretty funny, and then ignore him and move on.

If you love it, don't worry what your co-worker thinks.

(Note: I'm not sure which road I would take.)

Ultimately, it really only matters if you like it.
However, I have a 6.75" wrist and find the 34mm size to be too small for my taste.

I think it depends on the shape of your wrist as well as the circumference. I have 7.5" wrist and wear a 38mm Tudor Date-Day quite often, but that's about as small as I would want to go for me.

I have 7" wrists and a 34mm watch is too small for my taste. That said, if you like it that way then that's all that matters.

34mm looks and feels too small for me and I have a relatively small wrist 6.75"

But as long as you like it, thats all that matters.

This is totally subjective. If you like it and it makes you smile, wear it.

I'd like to see a picture of it on your wrist to judge the size better but I'll answer your two questions first:

- The Rolex Date isn't a ladies' watch at all, I think it can fit a man very well.

- Men wrists can still have different sizes, therefore I'd say it may not suit a big wrist that much but a man with small or just normal size wrists can totally wear it without a problem.

Don't forget that it will always depend on what you think, if you have the feeling that the watch is the perfect size for you then enjoy it, otherwise you can always buy a 36 mm Datejust or a 40 mm sports model.

P.S.: I believe I'd be able to wear a 34 mm Date without any problem!

Just to address question #1, a 34 mm Rolex Date is not a ladies watch, it's a man's watch. Ladies watches are 31 mm in size. The trend now is for ladies to wear mens' watches and this includes the 34 mm along with the others (i.e. 36 mm, 40 mm sized watches). That being said, my M-i-L wears a blue faced 34 mm Oyster Date which used to belong to my F-i-L. My wife wears a 36 mm DateJust and sometimes my 40 mm Sub. For me, I prefer a 40 mm watch on my 6.5" wrist. At the end of the day, it's your choice. How about showing us some pics?

Most of my watches are vintage 34 mm and looks to be the perfect size.

Back in the old days, 34 mm was the standard men's size.

I've tried one and felt it too small for "me". 6 3/4". But I've seen them on others and thought nothing of it.

Be comfortable in your own skin. Life's too short for sheety watches. And your watch is not sheety :)

The 34mm is a small men's watch by today's standards.

It has not been that long ago since 34mm was a very common size for men, say in the last 15 years.

Never listen to you co-workers when it comes to personal affairs.

The Date isn't classed as a lady's watch, but it probably is a little on the small size for most modern gents. Some ladies like to wear this size (and larger), but that doesn't make it a lady's watch - some wear Daytonas and Subs as well. If you ask me, don't worry about what other people class a watch as, if you like it and get enjoyment from wearing it, that's all that matters
