GMT "RootBeer" Opinion

Good day everyone!

I really love the "RootBeer" GMT, ie...the dial and the insert BUT I am really not a yellow gold person.

What would you think about replacing the two-tone jubilee bracelet with an all stainless jubilee bracelet.

Just a thought.

thanks and Happy St. Patricks Day!!!

I think you'd be better taking a steel GMT and replacing the dial and bezel insert.

If you change the bracelet on a root beer you will still have a gold bezel and winding crown.

The root beer is the only TT style I like so I kind of understand where you are coming from but I honestly don't think it would look as good on a plain steel watch.

I have to agree with Mark here. The Rootbeer GMT is meant to be steel & gold, in my opinion. I would leave it as is, or sell it if you really don't like it and get a stainless steel GMT. Or have both!

I normally always agree with Mark, the grumpy badger however, I think you would be better off buying a root beer GMT. That way you get the correct dial, either nipple (vintage) or YG surrounds (vintage or modern), the gold bezel and crown and correct insert. They can be had at very reasonable prices, particularly when you find one with a stretched out TT bracelet.

So.. Buy the TT root beer GMT ( usually with TT jubilee), buy a used SS bracelet, jubilee or oyster depending on your preference. Take the stretched out TT jubilee you are not wearing, send it off to Michael Young in Hong Kong to be tightened and when it's back, you can sell it and more than pay for the SS bracelet, or meet it so the watch is complete.

I'm not sure how it will ok with an all SS bracelet. I saw a TT Sub bluesey for sale intheclasssifie not too long ago on a SS Oyster bracelet and I think it looked great.

I was wondering how long it would take you to chime in, Allan. Not long at all.

There's also the strap option, to lessen the gold effect which I sometimes prefer.

I have to say I totally agree with Allan here.

The Root-Beer is the perfect watch in TT with that gold trimming. It works perfectly with the bezel, dial, crown and hands.

It is now a Rolex classic for sure.

IMO the quintessential Root beer = TT jubilee + nipple dial.

If its good enough for Clint Eastwood it is good enough for me

TT nipple on jubilee. As a matter of fact, I think the GMT works best on jubilee in all circumstances.

Mine is a "Chocolate" and I have the original Jubilee Bracelet. I prefer leather so that is the route I went. I thought about a stainless steel bracelet but it disrupts the flow of the yellow gold to me.

This is my semi-daily wearer. It always gets looks and a perfect conversation piece.
