"New" iPad Issues?

I am waiting a few weeks before I buy the "New iPad" (aka iPad 3) to see if there are any bugs like the iPhone 4 antenna issue.

All I have heard so far is that you may want to get one with more memory since the higher resolution screen will result in larger app sizes and something about them getting hot... http://gizmodo.com/5894424/is-your-new-ipad-overheating

For those that have one and are able to give an honest assessment about an Apple product, what do you think? Too hot?

If that is true, I expect that Apple will deny it, then send out some silicone gloves and tell owners to hold it correctly.

I checked out the new iPad today at the Apple Store and handled three of them. They were all quite warm to the touch on the bottom. My iPad 2 never gets that warm . . .

I got mine on Friday, It seems fine to me, the battery lasts twice as long as my iPad2 (I had both the same models iPad2 was 64GB3G and my new one is 64GB 4G).

The only down side is that iPad3 (HD) is a bit heavier.

The screen is a lot shaper and the Wi-Fi is way faster.

Mine doesn't get hot at all and I use it for a few hours a night looking at TRF! Yes it is a little heavier than the iPad2 but nothing crazy. The screen is awesome and it's considerably faster. Is it worth the upgrade from an iPad 2??? not really, but if you don't have a tablet, this is the one to get.

My wife has had the original iPad for a couple of years. I am thinking about getting the "new" iPad (I currently do not have one). Thanks for the opinions so far; please keep them coming!

The only issue I have so far is over using it! It's my first IPad so it's a thrill to use ;)

I've been a ipad owner for about 2 hours now. The camera is much better than the iPhone 4. No complaints so far. It's the 32 gig with Wifi and 4G

The last teardown of the iPad 3 I read reported that its using a Samsung screen.
Doesn’t really add to the discussion but I found it amusing

I've had the new iPad since Friday, and it's been simply wonderful !

Although this is my first iPad, I LOVE it. I DO notice that the screen does get a little warm after using it for a while, but with such a fantastic screen, something would have to power that monster so I expect it to get a little warm. I actually notice that I'm using my laptop about 10% of the time now, and the other 90% of the time I find myself using the iPad. Simply a fantastic device, I should have gotten one when they first came out !

Just warm... or uncomfortably hot if laying on lap?

In Australian news papers the following has been posted in regards to the new Ipad.

http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/t...321-1vil4.html

'Too warm to hold': watchdog warns new iPad hot to handle March 21, 2012 - 10:58AM

A US consumer watchdog has warned that Apple's new iPad is a bit too hot to handle.

US nonprofit product testing group Consumer Reports reported that the new-generation iPad with its more powerful processor hit temperatures as high as 116 degrees Fahrenheit, particularly when running video games.

"It does run warmer than its predecessor," Consumer Reports spokesman James McQueen said of the third-generation iPad.

"People need to exercise caution," he continued. "We are not saying it is a dangerous product, but 116 degrees can be a little uncomfortable."

Consumer reports said the new iPad got about 12 degrees warmer than the iPad 2 tablet while performing the same intensive tasks, such as videogames or downloading large files.

One rear corner of the new iPad appeared to be a hot spot.

The new iPad's battery is 70 per cent bigger than the one in the previous version, said Kyle Wiens, chief executive of iFixit, a prominent Apple repair and parts supplier.

"It still has the same battery life," he said. "So it will run hotter."

The second-generation iPad 2 had a 25 watt-hour battery while the new iPad's battery has a capacity of 42.5 watt-hours, according to a tear-down analysis by iFixit.

A Dutch tech website also 'proved' that the new iPad is warmer, with a thermal camera picture that shows the new tablet is 5.3 °C hotter than an iPad 2.

Apple did not respond to requests for comment, but prior to the release of the Consumer Reports thermal analysis issued a public statement saying that the new iPad operates "well within our thermal specifications."

Operating temperatures of the latest iPads were hot topics among Apple gadget owners at online forums.

"It does get pretty warm," a person using the screen name ShadowJeff wrote in a public chat at website MacRumors.com. "Hope Apple fixes it or something."

"My new iPad ... definitely got significantly warm, almost too warm to hold, when running on LTE," rawwave commented on Friday. "Not even doing a lot of downloads (just browsing Twitter) but having the LTE radio on seemed to cause it to get noticeably hot."

Reviews have generally been good for a gadget that experts say falls short of being revolutionary, focusing on the iPad's ability to take advantage of faster 4G wireless technology in the US as well as a sharper display. It does not work on 4G networks in Australia because the frequency Australian networks use for 4G is different to the frequencies used in the US.

"The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold - the strongest iPad launch yet," said Apple senior vice president of worldwide marketing Philip Schiller.

The new iPad is available in Australia, the United States, France, Canada, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, Britain and Hong Kong. It will go on sale in another two dozen countries on March 23.

Been using mine since Saturday and have no noticable heat at all.

Still trying to figure out the best app to access (mostly) and edit (occasionally) documents and spread sheets. So far looks like Documents to go might be the best all around. Anybody else have any suggestions?

Been playing with mine quite a bit with o noticeable temp increase but haven't had it on anything but wifi as of yet. Could be the 4g antenna makes it hotter if in broadcasting mode?

Will report more later as to heat but it runs noticeably faster than my old iPad and the screen is nice. Had an original iPad with no camera so I likey so far!

I am not considering the 4g model and will mostly do low CPU activity like browse and email, so maybe the issue is moot for my purposes. I'll wait another couple of weeks and then go for it! Thanks, everyone!!

that consumers report article said it got 12 degrees (F) hotter (IIRC) than the ipad 2 while running the most intense video game that exists for the ipad. i don't think it will be a real issue when running day to day tasks.

I got my wife the new iPad for her birthday and to upgrade from her first generation model. She hasn't put it down in three days and has reported no problems. The wifi is a lot faster, the screen is great, and everything just responds much snappier. Granted, she only uses it for surfing, games, and a major Pinterest addiction.

Also if you are like most including me who have it in a protective case, heat won't matter but still after two days, no heat issues.

I'm SO over Apple and their flimsy devices. The iPad 3 looks to me like it's designed to break - even less complex curves around the edges, thinner glass, etc. A friend dropped hers off the dining table in a leather protective case and it shattered (the day after she bought it).

No thanks! I've had enough iPhone problems (I'm on my 4th one) to know it's time to move on to reliable, inexpensive, and sturdy devices. Function over fashion. I want something that will take a beating and be less painful on the pocketbook to replace if necessary.

So I picked up a Kindle Fire yesterday for $199. Awesome tablet! Exactly the right size, has all the apps I want/need, and IT'S A KINDLE! Which means I can read all my Amazon books on it too!

I've also been eyeing Android phones. There are some very nice options out there... some are better than the iPhone, all of them look sturdier, and all are cheaper. My next phone will not be an iPhone.

No brainer. Goodbye, Apple.

I've had the new one since last Friday. It does run warm, but I've experienced nothing drastic (it does have my Ipad2 plastic back cover on it). It's similar to the heat the Iphone will demonstrates running a GPS app continuously (i.e. hot, but not "I can't handle it" hot).

The screen is nice, but frankly I agree with those who feel the difference between it and the Ipad2, if you already have one, is not worth the upgrade. I'm sure the camera is significantly better than the lo res version in the Ipad2, but I don't presently use my Ipad in a manner that requires it at all.

I still think it's a great product. I haven't turned on my laptop since I got the first one.

YMMV, JMHO.

My wife rarely uses her laptop any more, either!

The "not too hot to handle" part is what I am looking for. If it's like a hot potato and I'd have to keep moving it around to avoid being uncomfortable, then I wouldn't want it...

My experience has been different. The iPhone 4 has held up vs multiple drops.

Sorry to read about your experience.
