Omg!!!

I just saw a vet who picked up a SubC while he was in Saudi. BUT, he had the AD send it out to get it PVD'd or DLC'd (not sure which one). Took 2 months to get it back. I gotta tell you, that watch was freakin sweet!!! I couldn't stop looking at it! Kinda hard to do the surgery when I kept looking at his wrist!

I have to admit that it's a beauty, but I could never bring myself to have that done to any of mine.

Very cool. If I had a large collection I could see myself doing that to a Sub. Add a red second hand and it would be awesome. There are millions of subs out there. No harm in customizing a few of them. I like a little different. No different in modding a car to your likening. Personally I think it's a tasteful mod that doesn't take away from the brand at all. It may not appeal to all but IMO it doesn't kill the value either. I have seen them sell for more than a non coated sub. For someone that wants one buying it already done saves you some money and they will sell.

I wonder how these PVD / DLC coated watches will look after a few years of wearing ?
There was one on Ebay for sale some time ago.
But the condition :-(
I am able to buy a 'used' watch and have it restored.
But what are you going to do when the coating is missing on the case, bracelet . . . ?
If someone has pics . . . . please do show them to us !

I knew a lot of people here would not like it, but in the flesh, the black case with a black ceramic bezel and black dial just looked very cool to me!

Good point. If it's DLC (diamond like coating) it's supposed to be very durable. This guys watch didn't have a single mar on it.

I saw one for sale on eBay last year that had taken a fall along with it`s wearer and it was badly scratched and looked like sh*t.The last bid that I saw for it was just over $3,000 but I didn`t see what the final sale price was.

Lesson number 1.... dont wear Rolex during surgery... It distracts Doctors... maybe Rolex should have a disclaimer....

WARNING:

Wearing a Rolex during surgery could cause serious health consequences. Doctors and/or Staff could be distracted. Please wear moderately.

i have a PAM with factory DLC and the finish is tough as nails. plain SS scratches much more easily. of course, if you do manage to scratch the DLC, there's no way to repair it without completely stripping and refinishing.

I'm so torn on this subject. I like the way it looks but I just don't think I could bring myself to do it. It does look great though!
