Visiting this forum has freaked me out.. lol
I've been on here about a week (maybe less) and I've become so paranoid over my last Rolex purchase, its all I think about.. lol
I bought from a gray dealer in Houston in Dec. I'n not doubting the authenticity of the watch, but I don't think I got all the "fluff" that goes with it. I got a box, manual, warranty (paper), tag, anchor ,etc. Did Rolex recently change the box on Sport models? I've got a Z model, but I think I got a datejust box. I know I'm being trival, but at the time I didn't know the difference between gray market and AD.. |

I dont think you have a lot to worry about. I would find an AD or other reputable gray dealer to check the watch. It is my experience that a good gray dealer is in many cases better than at least, my local ADs. However, I will warn you some Rolexaholics have a thing against used and non Rolex ADs. While you have to do your homework, you can get great service, a good deal and 100% REAL Rolex from a gray dealer. As far as the boxes go, I never really kept up with that. Rolex seems to have hundreds of different box styles. To me, when I wear my Prez that I paid $8900 bucks for it looks as good or better than a guy's brand new one that paid over 20K for. Thats just my humble opinion.

Here's a new DJ box. It looks identicle to my new Sub box. The size may be a bit different though.

I don't care, I'll throw them out there.. lol
I bought this watch from Hal Martin on Westheimer in late December. So do they just get these watches and throw the boxes around and they just gave me a box and got me the hell out of there? I assumed they were shipped with these boxes, but with a gray dealer, I don't know how they get them. should I be concerned? |

From what I know, it is an older box and yes in my experience of gray dealers here, they mix and match boxes all the time. The only "real" offical box I got was with my LV purchased from an AD. All the watches in my collection came with a hodge podge of boxes, but all Rolex boxes none the less.
In my opinion, just having a "Rolex" box, regardless if it isn't the exact one for the specific model, keeps you way ahead of the game compared with somebody without any box. Correct me if I am wrong?? |

Rolex watches are not shipped to the AD in a box. The watches are shipped in containers with a bunch of security. The boxes arrive in a bigger box from UPS or such..
Generally when you buy, the AD sticks it in what he thinks is the right box. A Gray Dealer usually gets his watches from the AD at a wholsale price....He is stuck with whatever box the AD sends him, just like you are - this may give the AD an opportunity to dump older style boxes. I'm not sure why the box would bother you so much, but there are lots of them available on the net...Also, call your GD....Tell him you would like to exchange it if he has the later style...Maybe he's a nice guy.... |

An anchor came with it?
And I don't know why, but for some reason I find the fact that Rolex ships its watches separately from its boxes really amusing. Although I understand the reasoning, I never would have thought that this would be the case.

there are 4 different box sizes(in the new style, like yachtsales' pic):
small for SS, midsize for TT, large for all gold, super large for all gold with diamonds.

You bought Grey and you don't have that peace of mind you get when you buy from an AD. I would pay more anytime to have that. Plus the service you get from your local AD. Sorry, i am just very pro AD. It doesn't pay. You think u save but you really don't.
