Engraving?

My GMT is never leaving my possession until I no longer have to pay taxes. Now I'm having an overwhelming desire to engrave the back. Only I'll know it's there and something for my kid to remember me by some day. I'm looking for some brief profound thought but I don't have many. I rarely get beyond breasts and/or food. so....

Have you? Would you? What would yours say? Looking for fresh ideas.

I don't see an issue with it. You can always buy another caseback if you wanted to remove it. I think it's a good idea especially if you intend to pass it down.

I would NEVER do it ...

but I rarely keep a watch over a year. This love affair you have now with the watch might end abruptly. Then who will buy it. Disclaimer: I have 3 adult children but no clue if they will ever get a watch of mine.

I didn't even know serial flippers existed until I joined here. I know 30-40 people that have Rolexes and I don't think any of them have ever sold a watch. My mother has had one of hers 25 years and her other one 15, her 25 yr old DJ is engraved with my sisters DOB. They will never be sold. Same for my exstepfather, both uncles, and grandfathers Rolexes. Most of those out there are 1-2 watch people and buy a Rolex to wear a very long time. As I said earlier a case back is easier to source than any other part of the watch. Very simple and cheap fix if the watch had to be sold.

There is nothing wrong with doing it, if you regret it later on you can always get a new fresh case back. I like my Rolex as it left the factory myself, but to each his own.

How about paraphrasing the great George Best:

Not very original, however your initials or name a very appropriate in this situation.

I prefer Latin insperational quotes;

Ductus exemplo......................... " leadership by example"
Temet nosce .............................."know thy self"
Sine labore nihil .........................."nothing without work"
Carpe diem ................................."seize the day"
Melioria cogito "..........................."strive for the best"

My personal favorite ; "Facta, non verba"..............actions not words"

I like it, but he'd need to swap for a saucer-sized Nixon or B&R to fit it.

Since the OP is passing it down, how about "miss me yet?".
