What's wrong with this cyclops?
I'm perusing the internet "Rolex for sale" sites to further my education to eventually become a RIS (WIS), like so many of you.
I notice on this one that the cyclops has either a crack on the underside of it or...glue? What do y'all think? http://www.ebay.com/itm/130688119874...84.m1436.l2649 |

All the rest of the pictures show it at better angles. I like this watch, since it's almost 39mm, and my 1505 is rather on the small size at 34mm. But I don't want to get screwed by a fake. They don't show pics of the etched/engraved case markings, and they say that the bevel is frozen. They gaurantee it though.

Pretty cheap fix, needs a new crystal (Can be sourced/installed for about 60 bucks. Well, my watchmaker usually charges that.)

In addition to replacing the crystal, you may need to have a thorough cleaning and dial worked on.
The dial puzzles me since I've never seen an original pie pan dial have a lume dot applied right on top of the "T SWISS T" printing. Maybe it's been refinished? Note the bezel no longer works either. So plan on $400+ if you really want it properly serviced by an independent watchmaker.

Might better sites - like this one - vs eBay - to learn about watches.

I have a suspicion this one is a spare parts bin creation. Why would a watch seller not spend a couple of bucks making this perfect for resale? Doesn't seem right to me.

Acrylic cyclops, probably a scratch across the surface. Had similar distortion on my Tudor Sub, easily solved with a light buffing.
Looks like a well worn 1625 DJ Thunderbird in need of a little/lot of TLC. Depending on how far you wanted to go. Get it at the right price and it's a nice little project, a lot of stretch in that bracelet and not cheap to replace. |
