Hi.
I am new to this forum, and new to Rolex. First, what is AD? I read about this on the forum, but I do not know what it is.

Rolex is a confusing world. I am looking for a two toned (gold and stainless)
26mm Datajust, champagne dial, and oyster, not jubilee band. No diamonds.

I went to a jewelry store, and the man showed me a beautiful one and swore to me that it was new. No, he did not have the box because it had been in the store for sometime, but it was reduced because they wanted to "find a home" for the watch.
I went home, did some internet checking, and then called his store's corporate offices and learned that that store only sells pre-owned watches. I was so disheartened and angry at the same time.

I have since gone on the web, and seem to only or mostly locate pre-owned watches.

Now, new vs. pre-owned. If you find a pre-owned that you like, how do you know if it is a "good" watch....plus how do you really know if it is really a Rolex? Is new just as good as pre-owned? How can you find the date of manufacture on a pre-owned?

Any hints as to what to look for on a Rolex to tell authenticity, or hints on how to buy one would be greatly appreciated. I probably have so many more questions, but I do not yet know what they are.

I will be reading posts on this forum for a few days, just to learn what questions to ask.

welcome to trf. an AD is an authorized dealer, and their locations can be found on rolex.com. new vs. pre-loved... i'd check out the for sale section and see what other members on the forum have to offer. we do have a couple of trusted sellers who can save you tons of money.

Ladies DJ on jubilee. Ultimate women's watch IMO. My mother has 2 and I just got one for my fiancé. Being new to Rolex be careful. Many really good knockoffs out there. Buy the seller. If its a surprise make surer you can return it if she wants another one. I personally like buying from an AD because saving $100-200 for me isn't worth buying grey but there are many great sellers on here that I'd buy from without question. Stay away from eBay since you are new to Rolex. Luxurybazzar has almost all the combos so you can get on there to see msrp and all TE dial combos. Preowned you can get within a few years of mfgr from the serial. If it has original papers you will see when it was purchased and go by that. I like new and would only buy preowned if the model was discontinued. Personally for women I like 26,31mm most. 36mm is pushing it IMO but many feel different. Personally I think it's a fad. The ladies DJ have been popular for 40+ years for a reason.

Well, if it's for a birthday present i'd buy a new one, not pre-owned. I think you can get at least 10-15% discount on a 26mm dj by an authorized dealer

You seem to be well decided on the watch of choice for your wife. Just to get you thinking, I am a big fan of men's watches on women. May very well depend on her style, but I had my girlfriend recently try on a Yacht-Master II 40mm in a store and it looked awesome on her wrist. I think they have small and medium versions as well.

As far as what to buy and where. I agree with the prior comments that a gift might be nicer if it is new. If you are buying new, make sure you are at an Authorized Dealer. Otherwise, all bets are off.

Does anyone know anything about them? They offer the watch I am looking for at a nice price?

Are they an AD? The site comes with recommendations from satisfied customers.

No ADs can sell online from what I understand. Never heard of them.

I'd be careful with websites like that. Could be reputable, but who knows. I have heard stories about people buying watches for big money and finding out later that they are not real. The A stands for "Authorized" for a reason.

As others have suggested, you can also buy new/used on the forums on this site.

When I began reading on this forum, there is a caveat that states that the forum is not responsible for anything that I buy.

I understand 100% the reason for this, but it also does not guarantee that what If do buy from someone on this forum, who is to say that it is any "better" buy from say, this Swiss Wrist web site that I found.

Can some recommend someone on this forum from whom they made a purchase?

I guess in truth, the surest way to do this is to buy from an AD...then you are sure.

To answer your question above.

There is a complete sub section devoted to the feedback from purchasers and buyers!
Take a look at the main page, then find the 'Buyers and sellers who's who'!!
Lots of info and feedback to browse, and by shear volume of a sellers feedback, you should easily be able to ascertain the high volume and trusted sellers!

Been lurking here for 2 years or so, and bought my first Rolex used from an AD(Tourneau-should have known better; live and learn). Could have done better on price, but using the AD gave a nice comfort level.
I've learned a bit more (thanks TRF!), and have since flipped the ExpII for a Day Date on the grey mkt and did fairly well. Check the who's who feedback section; with a good seller, you could save $$$.

if she's not going to wear it often, i'd get a no date oyster perp or something like that. the datejust is a winner but if its not a daily wear, its a pain to set all the time. i got my wife a 2tone op and it works.
