Small digital camera? Olympus XZ-1 vs Canon S100 vs anything else?

I looked at a few reviews, since like both Olympus XZ-1 and Canon S100 are very good.

Is there any user opinion from TRF?

I really like the fast lens of ZX-1, but seems like S100 is better in everything else.

What other small digital camera that's comparable to the two?

You will not regret the S100 if you want to stay as small as possible and will use the features it offers. The 2.0 lens on the Canon really extends the functional range of the camera in low light.

The micro 4/3rds are coming up strong if you can handle a bigger form factor.

I just purchased a couple of lower end Canons and really prefer them over Nikon in the P&S category. I prefer Nikon in dSLR, though.

I don't know all the technical jargon but I love my Panasonic Lumix ZS7 for point and shoot. Kind of weak indoors but just awesome outside. 12X optical zoom, 720p video, takes SD cards for unlimited storage and even has a gps to track where you took the picture. First camera I really have liked.

I been using the Sony NEX5 for the past 2 years and been very pleased with the results. The form factor with the zoom lens is bigger then the average P/S, but it gives the shooter more options.

I have a Sony NEX-5n and it takes fantastic pictures.

If you want more of a P&S, I've always been a fan of Canon or Panasonic.

A similar size was the Canon IXUS 100, i've been using mine for the last couple of years as a pocket size alternative to my Canon G10....i bought mine blind, based purely on reviews & when it arrived i thought i might have trouble with my fat fingers as the buttons / controls are a pretty small but it's given me some terrific results

The Canon S100 is an amazing pocket camera. Their F2 lens is tops. You will regret the purchase. This is probably the best or one of the best small pocket cameras on the market today. That is just a fact that can be supported by most camera junkies. Good luck!

I am sure he meant you will NOT regret the purchase

I have the H100 mentioned above but it is a step below the S 100. I got it for biking and backpacking

I also have a sx230 hs that is a great camera as well but much bigger than the S 100 and with a lesser lens. I got it for a travel zoom.

If you are going to have just one camera- S100.

The S 100 is great if you want to use manual mode. For the "usual" point and shoot on auto or program, the camera gives good results.
I use this as an alternative to a Nikon D 90 for some travel shots and when lugging around a DSLR is a burden.
The problem I have run into is the S 100 is very slow........
Even with the new processor.
I have been using the same class 6 memory cards for years and when compared to the other Canon P&S's this one lags behind in speed. Frustrating!
