Hacko Editing/Deleting Post Privileges
" It seems like these threads are unproductive and should be deleted. Deleting threads is not generally a forum policy, but when a member edits their posts to make the entire thread meaningless, there appears to be no point in continuing to have that thread on the forum? Most forums do not allow members to amend their posts. Up to now there has been no such rule on this forum. Unfortunately it appears that will now have to change. The relevant member can choose to restore his posts, and restore the dignity of the other members efforts in the relevant threads. If the member chooses not to restore his posts to their previous state, the threads will be removed in their entirety. Removal will occur within 72 hours from now."

Such childish / greedy behaviour from the offending user(s), if you asked me.

Pity it had to come to this. Why can't we all just get along and talk about Rolex watches? Life is too short.

You know, maybe you should just ban Nick all together... Seems like he's the one in habit of doing this kind of .
He's not very "Rolex-friendly" anyways, nor is he Rolex-trained, nor -authorised to work on their watches! Why do we allow him stir up the pot like he does?

Seriously, looking at the feedback, especially from the new members, one of TRF's key strengths is the open generousity with which the members treat each other. That's not just a mod's job to maintain - members like JJ, KansaiVet, Jocke, Mike, Bo and scores of others freely share their knowledge and resources with the other members here, and that's what makes TRF the forum it is. Trying to take one's knowledge as a weapon to bludgeon or hold other members ransom with is entirely against the spirit of the forum, and it's certainly something neither members nor moderators should have to tolerate.

It's too bad that this has happened. Those threads all contained good info and most had great pix. Although I suppose that posts are the intellectual property of the poster, actions should have appropriate consequences.

I don't think the editing button should be taken away, as it comes in useful when one stuffs up his/her post.
But to spit the dummy and totally delete ones post is bad form. Why should one crazed mans actions affect all of us. If Mr. Hacko wants to be part of an "open" forum, then grow up, be nice and stop treating us "lay men" like idiots. We are ALL here to learn and get along. John. |

He's deleted every post of his except the ones in locked threads.
Anyone asked him why? I will.

Don't think he wants to share his knowledge here esp when a "heated" discussion occured regarding those extra jewels on the 3135 movement.

In late August 2007, Hacko had a problem in disrespecting another members opinion (this was not the first and far from it being an isolated occasion). He was asked to behave in relation to respecting another member opinion and a moderators decision.
As a result he decided to remove HIS precious photos and posts. One month later Hacko returns here on a daily basis to enjoy the forum and the input of other members. I'm not prepared to have threads/posts shredded by a member, and thereby have the meaningfulness of the thread or discussion destroyed out of one members selfishness. The forum is a resource for everyone to enjoy from the past to the present to the future. Hacko couldn't see past the dollar signs in front of his nose, he used the forum in an attempt gain noteriety. Hacko couldn't stay away from the forum, its just a pity that he felt he had the right to damage the forum at the expense of all the members past, present and future. He'll probably try and come back under another identity, because he has behavioural issues, and has displayed a disrespect for both the forum rules and other members, unfortunately it appears he was always just here for his own self centred gratification. |

I remember his first ever post nearly went "pearshape" due to his attitude. Things calmed down and we all enjoyed some useful posts from him.
It doesn't detract from him being the type of person he was. I'll not miss his attitude and that's for sure.

Behavior like this mirrors that of a spoiled child. A child throws a fit and tries to get others attention by committing such attention requesting acts like throwing things, crying, hitting ect. Juvenile actions such as erasing postings are a weak minded person’s best attempt to call out for needed attention. People like this are often social misfits with boring lonely lives. I feel that members like Bo, JJ, KansaiVet, Jocke, Steve, and Mike offer a very valid example of how to behave and be positive. I know I have gained valuable insights with these members input.

To be blunt, in my communications with Hacko, both on amicable terms and otherwise, I found him to be a megalomanic and thoroughly gruesome individual. In public, he called members here clowns for saying that they found cash to be an effective bargaining tool, but that was only the tip of the iceberg - I shan't repeat what he's said in PMs about the members here and his opinion of the forum in general. Despite holding a particularly low opinion of the members of this forum, he continued posting, which leads me to conclude that his only reason for posting here was to feed his own weak ego.
On top of that, he was disingenuine. Time and time again, I had discussions with him about his interactions with other members, and time and time again he made the excuse that it was because English was not his first language. I leave it up to you to decide if a linguistic deficiency justifies his manner towards other members. The fact of the matter is that Hacko's knowledge of watchmaking made him no more special than his contemporaries Ironstark and Vanessa, both of whom have shared their knowledge with us with no expectation of an ego-stroking. The generousity of the members here is what makes this forum irreplacable. If Hacko thought that his knowledge overrode that, he was sadly mistaken.

Argh only been on the road for 6 days and seem to find a lot of not so good threads concerning members, TRF and what not!
As far as hacko is concerned, his english 'excuse' never fooled me for a second. I sure hope this will not escalate into something bigger, other threads included sigh. Good comment by the way Gedanken, completely right on the Hacko, Vanessa and what's the other guys name again? |

Well he certainly screwed up one of my favourite threads "which Rolex is rugged and reliable"....I had this saved to favourites and often looked at it.
No more, I've deleted it and him....... |

As Alfalfa of Little Rascals said to Spanky about eating lunch with his belle, Darla, "Sometimes a man's got to do what a man's got to do." James

I did invite and give Hacko the opportunity of restoring his posts/photos, but I received a tirade of vitriol in reply, so I was left with no option in this matter.
As for leaving or removing the posts as they are I think that I would on reflection agree with Downing's take on this. |
