Why doesn't Rolex make watches with more complications???
Why doesn't Rolex make watches with more complications ? Imagine a Rolex with a power reserve indicator, a moonphase or a Tourbillon (technically not a complication itself) Nevertheless, the tourbillon is one of the most valued complications of collector's watches and premium timepieces. I believe that Rolex has the capability and/or expertise to make such watches. I would think that they could start another line of complicated watches to add to their various product lines. After all, they still produce a quartz watch in their Cellini line. What do you think???

Would you buy a Clownmaster?
Rolex sells more watches than any of the Swiss High Horology Houses, gives more to charity, and has built a dynasty.
Why should they try to out Patek, Patek, or JLC? |

The Clownmaster, ugly as it is would be considered to be a complication. The Daytona qualifies also.
One of them is unobtainable, the other is undesirable.... Rolex's niche is rough and tough watches. Complications are generally delicate and dressy. |

Since I move my wrist into different positions during the day, a tourbillon is superfluous, and if I want to determine the moon phase, I look up and check.

Because Rolex is known for making sturdy tool watches, and the more complicated a watch is, the less sturdy it gets.

I have seen a vintage Rolex that had a moon phase complication on it before. I think it was dated to the 1950s or sometime at that point.
Most be worth a premium nowadays.

Because Rolex is a money making machine, and interested in making a lot of watches AND a lot of money.
Nothing wrong with that. Remember, Hans Wilsdorf was NOT a watchmaker, but came from iron-monger family. He WAS a great visionary AND marketing genius. Quote:

Very nice!!! Maybe they will reintroduce this watch, like they did the milgaus. So far as the other posts about Rolex being a "tool" watch, how can a Cellini be called a "tool" watch ?? |
