Hi All,
I just wanted to give a big thanks to all the posters here that take time to inform us Rolex newbs on product and what certain protocols are when it comes to buying, maintaining, these outstanding pieces. Your time is appreciated. I have been lurking here for a while and finally decided to join. Some of the collections here (Rolex and Non-Rolex) are incredible, to say the least. I guess my main concern right now would be the debate over winders as I ran the search option and it seems it's a 50/50 split in terms of using one or not. Well, 50/50 in my head anyway. Both sides make good points and at the end of the day, like everything else in life, it remains personal choice, but I just am nervous that I am kicking the crap out of my watches having them running 24/7? Is that even possible? Thanks. |

Welcome to TRF.
As to your question, you'll get answers on both sides of this issue. Some of us would say you can't "kick the crap" out of your watches if you keep them on a winder; others would say it's better to let them rest between wearings. No one knows what the real answer is - if there even is one. So you just gotta do what you think is best for you, and don't worry about other people's opinions.

Welcome aboard!
If you only have one watch, you certainly don't need a winder because you have one at the end of your arm. If you own more than one watch and like to rotate through them, it can be pretty handy not having to reset them all the time. |

I have 4 pieces that I worker my butt off for. I have been using the winder for a few days now and I must admit it is nice to take the watch out and just put it on and go. |

If you have one watch, there just isn't any reason to have a winder. A typical auto has a 40 hour reserve, and normal wear will keep things going. If you have 3 or 4 watches that you like to rotate frequently (almost daily changes), a winder has a little value. If you rotate weekly, it takes about 30 seconds/week to wind and set a time and date watch. I don't believe keeping your watches running constantly will extend the life and it may shorten it.
I"m wearing a watch that has time, date, month, day-of-week, and moonphase. Each time I put this one on the setting process is a minor aggravation. A winder for this watch would make a little sense, at least. I have an inexpensive winder but don't use it. |

Winders rule
 Sometimes I wear one watch during the day and if I head out at night I might wear a completly different watch, with the winder they are always ready to go.... |

As for winders: Remember the winding mechanism is like any other mechanical object and it needs to be exercised to keep the lubricants dispersed. I recommend a monthly winding.
