Adjusting Explorer 39m band on my own

All: awesome band on this watch (my only Rolex). The adjustable link works really well but I'd like to loosen it by one slot on the side that has three "slots". Apologies for my not knowing the terms. Anyway - id like to avoid a trip to the AD. Any way to do this myself with a very pointed instrument or am I going to screw up my band? Many thanks.

Very small screwdriver or Bergeon 6111 tool will do it. Hard to mess up unless you let the springbar fly off and lose it.
