Daytona or not? I'm happy with my choice!
Don't have the patience or desire to place my name on a waiting list for a SS Daytona so instead I went looking for one at grey dealers on diamond street in New York. Not hard to find, but very expensive. Even when combining the purchase with a PP, which my New York buddy purchased, the best price I could negotiate was $11,250. So instead I used that amount to justify buying the following:
TT Blue Face YM (D series) from Tom SS SUB (D Series) BNIB TT JUB DJ ToG (R series) from individual Call me crazy, or other more colorful names, but I am happy with my decision. |

Looks like you made some really nice choices. I want a couple more, but am waiting for now.

Good for you
Instant collection.. I'm not a big Daytona fan so I say, if you can't get one you like, for the price you like; there are plenty of alternatives...this is just one....and a good one at that.. |

Maybe the white dial one would be nicer to you to contrast with your other two black dial Rolex? Just thinking out loud. I like them both. Black or White Dial Daytonas rock. |

I've wanted a Daytona since 1985, but rather than pay the absurd gray dealer markup, I'd MUCH rather have the collection you just got! The only thing better than having a Rolex is having a shoebox full of Rolexes!

not only do i agree with this comment, but would add...JJ has said on prior ocassions that you must know your buyer...when you buy in the diamond district you can get taken very very easily. example? diamonds that have been drilled with lasers and filled, worth virtually zippo. people get hoodwinked everyday, and when they find out, what to do? eh...go to Better Business Bureau of Manhattan? go back and hassle? same with ROLEX. you are smart to buy from people whom you know have a good reputation for honesty and reliability. great move. congrats!!(DONT BUY FROM UNKNOWN SOURCES UNLESS YOU ARE AN EXPERT!!)

turn-o-graphs are wonderful watches...i got talked out of one this summer by my grey market dealer , he just doesn't like em...but i've chafed ever since; i'm an incurable turn-o-graph fan...have you seen the ones with those knock-out dark blue dials? man alive! almost enough to make me forget about the mad obsession i have right now with a GMT II Master-ceramic(help me, help me!)....... how bout some pics of that turn-o-graph, eh?

I went through the same thing a little while ago. Was saving up for a Daytona, but when i was nearly there, I fell in love with and bought my Omega Speedmaster Professional (Moon Watch), my Omega Seamaster Chronograph Professional, and my gorgeous Submariner 16610, which some spare change left over for a quick trip to Thailand with my girlfriend...

Forum members are going to start talking if I keep saying thanks! I am in the process of taking close up pictures of the YM and SUB to show the subtle differences between the two. Until I had time to make an in-depth comparison between the two, I had no idea the cases were so different. The YM is more curved and smoother than my SUB. Not to say that is good or bad; just different. Next I will compare my old GMT against the YM and SUB and will post pictures. Lastly, I am SOOOOOOO glad you lost your mind and parted with the YM. PM me with the price of your DJ! Really, not kidding! |
