Tropic Strap and Vintage Rolex Diver??

Gents:

I've heard rumors that Rolex used to sell its divers (5512s, 5513s, others?) on a tropic strap as a cheaper option, back in the 1960's? Any truth to that?

And, relatedly, anyone have a pic or wrist shot of their vintage Rolex diver on a tropic strap? I know we're always up for a wrist shot around here!

Not quite vintage or a diver but you get the idea.

Thanks, gents!

Strangely, many here don't like this combo. I'm saving this tropic for my vintage Jumbo Tudor DD when it returns from Bob Ridley, which was supposed to be today.

Dan:

Thank you for the pics. It looks good to me.

Any info on whether Rolex historically sold divers with a tropic (or had gave the option to buyers?)

I've read the same but can't remember where, sorry. Back in the day you could order any bracelet that fit the watch so it makes sense that Swiss made tropics would have been an additional choice.

Google "tropic strap submariner" and you'll see several articles/posts. AFAIK, it was an option for subs back then.

Isofrane is currently selling some NOS (in blue only) if you're interested in picking up one actually made back then.

Another pic, not vintage, but with a Tropic. I love my Tropics...
