Icon20 Leather band conversion

Hi Everyone,
I am new to the site but have owned a DateJust for 20+ years. I rarely wear it now because I added a diamond Bezel that I think is too flashy. I recently saw a Rolex bill board (in south Florida) that showed a typical oyster looking case with a leather band. The key was that there was a "hood" between the lugs that gave it a finished look. I have a Tudor Tiger that came with both a leather strap and a metal band. It came with a part I add between the lugs when I change to the leather band that gives it that finshed look. Now to my question. Is there a source for a similar "hood" for a 1980s vintage two tone Date Just? Yes, I have the origanil bezel and will go back to it if I can get motivated with a different look. If this part is not available from Rolex I would consider a non-origianal part. That is because I would always be able to return the watch to its orginal look.
Thanks fo r reading and any insight you can provide me.

Welcome to TRF Marion

Can't help you except to say I really like the look of the Daytona strap with the extra piece between the strap and case.. But, boy that baby is expensive...If you can find one..

Let's see if any of our members can help with the search

Welcome to TRF, Marion

Well, I have never heard of such a "hood", and definately not as a Rolex part.

All I DO know is that that those DJ's that are "BORN" with a strap (introduced in 2004 as the "New Datejust Style") cannot get a Jubilee or Oyster bracelet added on them later.

The same thing applies to the Daytonas that are "born" with a leather strap.

Reason being that there is a prominent "SEL" on the case itself that hinders attaching a metal bracelet on it later (could look like a "hood", I guess).

I know this doesn't help you any further, since you are looking for this detachable "hood", but this is just to say that what kind of Rolex you saw at the AD was probably the "New Style DJ", and that specific model has the "look" you desire (I guess) but has no detachable "hood".

I wish you good luck in finding the hood!

That is not what my AD told me (and Wempe and Bucherer in Berlin told me this, as well).

The permanent "solid end link" sticks out so that you cannot attach an Oyster bracelet to it.

Of course you could file the part of the prominent part of the "solid end link" down to make the bracelet fit, but this could void the guarantee.

the 2 endlinks on daytona with strap are not attached to the case permanently.......once the bezel is removed, the endlinks are "free"....

Hmm!

Doesn't look like it to me:

(pic by Jocke)

Frankly, I don't believe that middle part just comes off by taking off the bezel.

Well, the pic shows a "Zenith" Daytona 16519.

Still not sure if you can detach the "SEL" on the 116519, but you might be right though.

it can be detached , but as far as i'm aware it would not be a perfect conversion! the cut out/lugholes SELs not a perfect match compromising the integrity of the bracelet/ watchcase union

Anyway, thanks for sharing the pic, and if the "SEL" comes off the new Daytona, too, I would consider buying a YG Daytona on a strap like the one Paul "Welchwatchman" has (the one if the black dial and yellow subsidiary dials).

Another reason why I am in doubt about the ability to detach the "SEL" on the NEW Daytona is that there have been made changes to the strap lugs:

"They have grown slightly longer; they've become higher and are thus more stable. The holes drilled to accept the spring bars are now located farther away from the edges than they were on the first model"

(quoted from page 8 in the following review: "Cult Classic. The Daytona 116520. CLICK!
