Noob question: tudor - rolex whats the connection?

this might be a nooooobie question, but i dont know what tudor is exactly and how it is connected to rolex, im sure all the vets know everything about it!

from what i know.. tudor is a company that comes under rolex (the mother company)

and in the past rolex use to produce tudor watches.. and in some countries u can find tudor watches in a rolex boutique..



this is what i know.. if im wrong please correct me.. or please elaborate...

I'm no expert but here goes.............Tudor was started about 80 years ago as a budget line for Rolex. Up until the early 1990's the crown and cases were made by Rolex with Swiss ETA or Valjoux movements. In recent years Tudor has tried to differentiate itself from the traditional Rolex styling with models that look quite unique from earlier years.
I own a Tudor chrono and love it.

Dan, how is the general finish, polish and shine of the Tudors compared to your GMTII? Similar, same or lower level?

I'm guessing company tuned ETA movements instead of 3135 etc?

Also, anyone have a source for these besides ADs (Furman doesn't appear to sell them).

I find the fit and finish on par with my GMT. In fact, I think of it as a Rolex. I'm sure some would disagree but the Rolex crown & case, bezel, oyster bracelet, dial, crystal, and cyclops are all Rolex icons. The non Rolex, Swiss 7750 doesn't bother me at all. It's my favorite chrono movement.

I wonder why this brand is so under represented. I can't seem to find much on the net about it beyond the official site and sales on the Orlus site. Not many reviews, even watch fora that have all kinds of brand specific boards don't have Tudor. My 2007 watch catalogue that has about every Swiss manufacturer you could imagine does not have Tudor.

Its like a hidden brand, and I see some really nice designs, and substantially less than other brands out there.

If the finish and "bling" is on par with your GMT, then I'm impressed. Does Tudor use Rolex cases?

Yes they do. They also use Rolex bracelets. Oyster and jubilee are both available depending on the model.

I don't think Rolex makes the Tudor cases anymore. The last chronos with the Rolex case date from the late 1990's. Not sure about the Sub or other models.

Poor man's Rolex? Works for me.
