Correct Box For Sports Models 1976-1978???

I've found contradicting information regarding the correct box for sports model watches between 1976-1978. Some people say that the correct box should be the one with the Rolex relief and others mention that the flat one.

Can anyone chime in?

The one with the lighter green fabric with Rolex relief?

Or the one with the darker green suede-like inside with no relief?

Wolfgang, thanks. So is it fair to assume that the boxes transitioned from the one on the top set to the bottom one in 1979-1980?

Thanks John. I've been there before, unfortunately the information they have is somewhat contradictory. Reason why I posted this thread being as specific as possible.

I think the transition was a little later.... 1982 or so.

Actually around 1981, but depends when the watch was sold new as I've seen new watches sold in mid-80's with the 70's boxsets(remember lots of Rolex models sat in AD's stock for years unsold, unlike now. Also the 2nd set of pics you show is actually the latter 80's (2nd-series)boxset(which actually went untill 92) as the 1st series defers by the grain on the box and the grain on the outer box top which was more coarse(bigger) then the fine grain on the 2nd series box sets.

Wolfgang is correct, as he usually is with Rolex boxes.

The Bufkor box with the fine grain pattern ended around the late 1980's and the transition was the green pilow box made from the late 1980's until 1992/1993. In the past, I have posted a complete thread on boxes beginning from the mid 1970's until around 2000.

Correct matching box for rolex 1655 manufactured in 1971

hello everyone, I am new to this Forum. Do you have any idea what the correct matching box should be for the Orange Hand (Mark 1 dail) manufactured in 1971? I was told that it came with the Seahorse box in the UK while others said not necessary. Will you be able to advise me? I guess my next question is where I can find such kind of box? Many thanks

Hi Springer and Timetogo, thanks for your help. But then my 1655 was actually manufactured in 1971 (serial number is 2,7XX,XXX). Would a box from the late 1970s be correct?

Should be a Seahorse box or possibly the white box with a green stripe across the outer box lid. The Bufkor boxes were used in the USA starting around the late 1970's.
