Help needed: Setting time and date

Sometimes when i try to set the time and date i have a problem as follows:
First i unscrew the crown then wind it 40 times then pull it again to adjust the date as of yesterday's date and then when i try to pull more to adjust the time but the crown refused to be pulled more to the time position (it seems possible if i only pulled so hard but am afraid of damaging the crown) so i have to screw back the crown and fully unscrew to adjust the time.
Should i pull harder or first pull fully to adjust the time then push back to change the date and finaly screw the crown back?
