I am sure this on here somewhere allready, but what is the story on the SS Daytona with the white dial? I have come accross some for $11000 and more!!!!! ????

If you're referring to the high resale value, it doesn't matter if it's black or white, a SS Daytona is difficult to come by for MSRP and ADs don't get too many, so they tend to command a high price.

Also, depending on where you are, the market forces can dictate that a white face be worth more than a black face and vice versa.

In Asia, the black face rules.

The SS Daytona - White or Black Faced - is simply the most sought-after Rolex watch currently made, and perhaps also one of the most sought-after watches in the world.

I guess the SS Daytona is so popular since it is simply hard to get. Rolex makes few of them, and the reason is said to be that Rolex earns more on making TT and YG/WG Daytonas.

But also, Rolex has an interest in having at LEAST one model that is "hyped" since that would bring a lot of customers to the AD's asking for the SS Daytona.

The customers would get the usual "We don't even put people on the list anymore! NO sense! TOO many want it!......but we can offer you this nice Explorer II, White Face, or this SS Sub Date" etc, etc. Many then just buy it!

I am not that enthusiastic about a Daytona SS anymore ever since I bought my NIB Daytona TT for less than some of the asking price for the SS here and other forums. Yes, I am still on the waiting list and when the call comes, I will still get the SS at MSRP and it will go directly to either to my safe or safety deposit box. Maybe I will wear it someday or sell it for a profit down the line.
