Washing the new GMT IIC

I wanted to know if anyone who has the New GMT IIC in TT or all gold has given it a bath yet. My concern is with the new gold treatment given to the ceramic bezel--if washing will have any effect on the gold (or the platinum on the SS model). Have not washed mine as yet, but occasionally I wash my DJ and it sure looks nice afterwards. Thanks for the help.

I've showered in my SS model, umm, about 120 times. No change to the bezel's platinum numbers.

The platinum and gold in the Green Arrows are molecularly bonded to the ceramic bezel. It will not come off by washing. It can come off if you scratch at it with a paper clip. Sorry Sterling, couldn't help myself.

I'm pretty sure those numbers on the bezel are BENEATH the bezel and have been bombarded onto the bezel.

In the TT and YG versions, the particles used are 18 K gold....whereas in the SS version, Platinum is used.

You have nothing to worry about....soap and water can do NO harm to that bezel.

Hi Gary,

you would not harm the gold figures on the bezel by washing it. The gold is very well bonded onto the bezel.

Gold is virtually immune to most chemicals, and plain lukewarm water and MILD handwashing soap would NEVER harm the gold on your Rolex. Why is suggest a MILD handwashing soap is simply due to some soaps have to aggressive detergents in them so that they would harm the SEALS of the watch.

Some use a soft tootbrush on the links, too, but I for my part do not do that since the brush hairs could scratch the gold links, even if you are taking care not to scratch them.


I wash my Roles once a week, btw.

Hey, thanks to everyone for the input. I didn't think plain soap and water would do any harm, but I wanted to double check. It is too beautiful a watch to risk any harm to. This GMT IIC is a breathtaking piece, and Rolex sure came through with a winner in my opinion. It is a work of art & engineering.

Rolex recommends lukewarm water and a mild soap. No worries.
