DSRD My favorite rolex - long overdue pictorial essay on my treasure find!
So some time back I came across this absolute treasure which I thought i'd share tonight...
Now this beauty was simply smashing on - I have a deep sea and love the watch - but I was quite impressed at how fantastic a vintage seadweller looks on the wrist... Some pics from today (I never set the date since its quite a hassle to wind and don't really want to over do it with the crown - plus I'm lazy) But it just got better and better - in a fit of overwhelming foresight the original owner (I am second) had kept the whole history of his watch.... Te original receipt of purchase (he only paid a few hundred dollars in 1976) and letter of congratulations from Rolex.. Punched papers and original dated warranty But not only that - the watch was serviced a couple of times at Rolex and the entire service history was kept detailing all service right up to February 2012...in fact we were able to call the service center and they were able to verify the dial was all original (always a nagging doubt...) which was just so sweet I took this to my favorite authorized rolex dealer (who also specializes in servicing vibrage rolex) of course after securing the watch - and I was quite cruel about it. I walked in wearing it and said "oh i picked this used watch up is it real?" His eyes bulged and his face reddened. He took the watch off as if he could not believe it - took it to the back where the watchmaker looked at it - then both came out to demand to know if I knew what this was (and of course I played dumb)...afterward the watchmaker called his son (a watchmaker at the same aforementioned Rolex service center - interesting how it runs in families) who once again verified it was a genuine and original dial... Of course I let them in at this point that i knew what it was all along - and fetched all the boxes, links, paperwork - you should have seen the joy on their faces to see something like this....they said they felt like they were on the antique roadshow! Anyway - there's more but the gist of it is - here is the one vintage (and my favorite Rolex) in my collection -just thought I share... |
