Rolex 6265 - Expert evaluation needed please!
Hello everyone,
I bought my watch in 1994 and I wore it for a couple of years in the ninetees as my daily watch. I didn`t wear it for more then ten years or so and I decided now to sell it or sent it for a revison and keep it myself. This will depend on the comments on this forum. The pictures speak for themselves, you can see that the watch is very dirty and the glass of the watch is a bit scratched. Please experts give me some comments on my watch. on one side of the watch is engraved 6265 and on the other side 41379xx thanks rob |

So...yeah...you're gonna like what you find out about this watch! 1.) Don't do ANYTHING to this watch until you get lots of good advice here. 2.) Don't clean or otherwise touch the watch until you get lots of great advice here. 3.) Have a great weekend...because there is good news coming your way!

You're probably going to get some offers, but don't sell until you learn exactly what you have.

I'm going to play devils advocate here and say this is bunk. First three posts in google for Rolex 6265 list prices between 20k and 30k. However, to find this website to seek research and advice requires a bit more "searching". Also, for someone who isn't sure of what they have, they sure have taken quite a few pictures documenting all of the right aspects.
If I'm wrong and out of place I apologize. Pete |

The watch actually appears to be a 6263 with the original 6265 bezel switched out.

@ above comments
Ofcourse I did some research before posting and I saw prices between 20K and 30K or even more for 6265's. However, I came to this board because I am not sure what I have. As far as I know I have a 6265 with a 6263 bezel because I read somewhere on a site that Rolex dealers would switch bezel on these models at the request of the client. I also received comments from a friend of mine, he told me that I have a 6263 but the dial is probably not original. I have no documents with my watch and only the internet as a reference. I live in Brazil and it's difficult to get feedback here. Questions like these can only be answered by experts so that's why I am here..... @Pete I took about 200 pictures of the watch just to select the ones you've seen here and I made the selection based on information found on forum posts, indicating what are the right aspects. Please send more comments..... Thanks for all comments sofar and have a nice weekend! rob Last edited by waitingfornews; 10 September 2012 at 12:18 AM.. Reason: typo |

Rob,
Then I'll be the first to apologize for jumping at conclusions, and you did come to the correct place. I suspect that youll get more information later today when more experts chime in. I'm going to go back to my coffee and enjoy the pie that's dripping off of my face. Pete BTW, it's a gorgeous watch, I'm just not familiar with them. |

Rolex 6265 Cosmograph Daytona, originally manufactured c. 1974. Bezel changed to plastic 6263 type, service dial c. 1990s with small red "Daytona." Later hands, band and pushers as well, probably from same servicing. Approximate value as-is with replacement parts $20,000.

Pete, maybe you should take the approach on future threads of asking the person to snap a pic of the watch on today's newspaper local to them. calling a person's post Bunk is aggressive. i agree that a first time post wiht pics is weird, but he is not selling it, he is just asking for an assessment.

@pablo
There is nothing off here Pablo. I am for sure not a serious collector but I do have a couple of watches which I bought in the early ninetees. A serious collector would never post pictures of his watch in the condition as you see in my post. A serious collector would also know exactly what kind of watch he is owning. Don't forget that these kind of watches had different price tags in the early ninetees. Daytona"s were not cheap back then but the prices were really much much lower as of today. I bought my watch as an original Daytona without knowing exactly what model I was buying, sounds probably weird to a real rolex fan but it's true. I used it for many years as my daily watch that's why it's scratched. Anyways, I am not trying to sell a watch here, I am not asking if anyone can evaluate my watch. I only asked an expert's opinion to find out more about the watch. I don't even know why I am defending myself here..isn't this forum here for questions like mine? @Pete you apologised and If I am off then I am the one apologising.... Referring to Ian's post on another website: Ian is a close friend of mine and he was the one questioning the dial of my watch BTW....he was the one telling me about this forum...I didn't even know that it existed and yes he is interested in buying my watch....so what?! cheers..... rob |

Rob, here is some good advice:
Get it appraised at a rolex dealer or a major auction house in Rio. Get it insured. big time. its an amazing watch and worth a ton. dont have it repaired in any way if you plan to sell it. i recommend you sell it by auction. its too good for ebay and i would not suggest working through the mail for such a stellar watch. a face to face deal is best. or just wear it! i would sell it, and use the cash to buy a car and another Rolex! too valuable to wear for me; then again, i am a commoner |
