SS Daytona Servicing Costs

Anyone had an 116520 Daytona serviced before?

About to put one in this coming week but its just about fallen apart after 7 years of use and if its much over $1,000 USD its going to be a pretty big stretch getting it sorted out.

I went through a vintage specialist with my 1680 and it came to over $2,500 including the new 93150 bracelet and tritium pearl, I figure RSC will be the only ones with the parts to get a Cal 4130 running again and I'm just worried it might end up being worse than even the sub

It should cost your approx. USD 1,200 to have a Daytona with Cal. 4130 serviced by RSC... taken it justs need the standard service (cleaning / oiling the movement and polishing the case and band).

The crystal is also pretty trashed, bezel has some deep scratches and a couple dents, the movement is stopping completely periodically, like when fully wound you have to give it a tap to get it going again, the clasp on the bracelet doesn't stay shut properly, bracelet stretched pretty badly and the case isn't in great shape, nor are the pushers :\

Guess what I'm asking is aside from polishing how much is covered as part of the normal servicing and wear and tear, and how much is extra parts on top

It's hard to tell you how much extra you'd have to pay on top of the standard service cost but a new crystal will cost you approx. USD 400.

The bracelet - if you need a completely new one - is gonna cost you approx. USD 2,200.

Bezel (if you need a new one) around USD 350.

Hmm k, crystal definitely needs doing the rest I could probably decline if given the chance, is movement all inclusive of parts?

Sorry, the bracelet 78490 for the Daytona 116520 will probably cost you more..

In Denmark, it's DKR. 17,400. That's USD 2,900.

In the USA, it would probably be a little less, so count with around USD. 2,500 for the bracelet.

Normally, yes. But can't tell you if parts need exchanging that aren't part of the service. Your watchmaker can tell you that when inspecting the movement.

Which style of clasp is on your Daytona 116520?

The "old" 78490?

Or the NEW-style 116520 clasp (same style as the GMT II 11671x), ref. 78590:

Old style, its got about half an inch of play either way when its open and the fliplock bit doesn't stay shut if the crown gets snagged

In the second last pic you can see the crystal scratch, it goes from 12, sort of down in a dogleg through to the minutes subdial, about 2cm long, if it were plexi it'd buff out but its sapphire...

Well, obviously it's in dire need of service and cleaning!

Maybe, the watchmaker can fix the clasp. The bracelet itself should have some more years life...

I think that the bezel should shine up nicely, too... keep us updated, please.

Well there are people that keep the stickers on their Rolex... and there are people who wear their Rolex lol

This is actually one of a black/white pair belonging to my brother, the white one is 2 years older, and that white one makes this one look mint.

That bracelet actually had polished center links once upon a time

My brother owns a bar and restaurant called Shuck on the Gold Coast, shifting kegs and moving tables and chairs around for 7 years will do that lol

It hasn't been off his wrist, showers with it, swims at the beach with it, works on the hourse/yard in it, everything, no matter how dangerous or likely to cause scratches, the Rolex stays on the wrist.

Not a criticism, I should add. Fair enough...and good on your bro for using his watch rather than sequestering it away in a winder, or safe!

Personally I wish he'd had it serviced or at least the seals changed... that is my biggest concern as its never had new seals in 7 years of heavy salt water use and daily showering, I've been telling him for years to change the damn seals and now the movement is stopping constantly, if its rusted its going to be bad...

As for the rest of it though, I love the fact that its used as a tool watch like the old ones were, the safe queening of SS Rolexes saddens me :(

A crystal is around $130-150 US

Looks to me like your rolex still HAS a couple stickers! (caseback and I think there was one on the link near the clasp?)

How the heck did it get trashed so bad?! I wore my old RG DD through EVERYTHING (even showered with it a couple times a week) for almost three years straight, and it still looked pretty damn good (not perfect, no, wear & tear marks, yes; but yours looks demolished).

Some close-ups of my old DD:

There's nothing on the clasp, the caseback hologram is part left behind because the plastic layer on top of it peeled off when he tried to remove it and left the bottom behind, nobody in our family has more than the tiniest sliver of fingernails and he wasnt going to take a knife to it lol

I would have it serviced and polished.

Exchanging other parts will cost extra.

If the clasp is broken, that one is needed for sure.

I would leave the bezel. You seem to have used the watch heavily as a tool watch for 7 years. Scratches and marks are normal. I would be cool with that. It does not alter function.

From the pictures I could not judge the crystal. If it is acceptable I would leave that too. If it is too badly damaged, $400 sounds good.

Maybe some new pins for the bracelet, these are cheap. Definately would not buy a new bracelet unless it is totally broken. These cost a lot. If I were using a rocked Daytona as a tool watch, I might consider leather, textile or plastic straps. There are so many affordable straps out there, should be possible to find something for everyone.

Btw. the green sticker on the bottom is supposed to be removed. It just attracts dirt.

I'm actually going to pop one of those Thomas Preik sapphire casebacks on after the service, my brother saw one on my Speedmaster and was like wow I need one of those.

Aside from that I think yea the crystal is very distracting so do that, then just the normal polishing and get the movement sorted.

Good to see a Daytona that actually get worn on a daily basis. I hope you get the watch back quickly as I'm sure it will look brand new.

That's expensive for a crystal. If you look at the fourth line down, the crystal is $135. So yes, it is much more expensive in Europe

Send it to Time Care Inc, Rikki will sort you out for a lot less than RSC.

Sadly if I shipped it to the USA, customs would seize it at the border due to that Rolex USA copyright malarky.

I'm taking it to the AD it was bought from originally later today, couple of my brother's mates have bought a few dozen gold and platinum models at this AD over the last couple years so they should be keen to be helpful, I'll let you guys know what they say

Quote was $1,305 AUD for the full service + a new sapphire crystal which they said was mandatory

The bezel and crown were optional at $495 extra, $195 of that being the crown so $300 for the bezel, declined both, the crown wasn't damaged just scraped so it wasn't required, bezel had some dings but will be ok.

Watch came back this week, keeping perfect time as expected, but the real question is could RSC get the watch looking new again?

Well, the answer is... not really. They got it 80%-90% there but couldn't fix the deep scratches in the bracelet or case, and where they've tried to re-polish the PCL's, they've gone deep to remove scratches but not quite deep enough and its left a wavy or warped texture where the remains of scratches were which looks weird.
