Take off hologram on back of Rolex?
Hey guys,
Whats up with that hologram on the back? I have the 118238 day date president. The film around it goes kind of far the center so I thought you are supposed to peel the clear film off. So I started to slowly peel it to see... never took it fully off... It looks like the hologram is stuck to it and some parts of the hologram are peeled off and stuck to the watch. Is that normal? I didn't take it all the way off just peeked and put it back so as to not ruin the hologram. I imagine thats why they ended the holograms in 2006-2007. It is on the watch nicely and looks good at the moment. Thanks |

If you want to take it off, just run it over warm water. No worries.

I'd take it off, but I probably sweat a bit more in my sub than you do in the dd

The value of your watch will be ruined if you mess with it.

In 1999 while sitting on the can, I took mine off on my datejust, I might have finished the
job with a razor blade, not my wife's for shaving:)

Minnie Pearl left the price tag on, so why not?
Seriously, remove signs of packaging. |

I remember when this used to be the "Oh no, not again" thread. I never see why you should leave it on. Not if you are going to wear the watch.

Just peel it off, and use some masking tape or duct tape to get the remaining residue off.

I'm thinking from a value perspective too, when I take this off little pieces of it throughout the hologram will be stuck to the band it appears and the hologram will look really bad. So if I take it off I basically have to junk the hologram. I seem to be able to wear it with the hologram sticker ok for now.

Some of the green in the hologram is separated and stuck to the watch. Think it will reattach with that hairdryer trick?

I left mine on for a while but it started wearing off so I finally just removed the sticker and put it on a piece of paper along with my hang tag, box etc.

I'd keep it on if it wouldn't give me trouble.
I have taken all mine off since it bothers me on my wrist an produce me itching, but it is true that if you are going to sale your watch later on the sticker is a plus since it would mean the watch is in more original condition and some buyers are picky. So it is your decision. Best,

I'd take it off personally, I think it looks a bit tacky when they are left on and get all nasty and grungy after use.

I'd take it off, to me, it would add no value to the watch when / if you decide to sell. I certainly wouldn't pay a premium for a sticker that's been against your sometimes sweaty wrist for x number of years lol!

I am attempting to remove it, but little pieces of the green hologram are stuck to the watch. I was hoping to remove it in one piece for resale value. May not happen I suppose.

I'm just not sure why it kind of is disintegrated when I pull off the sticker, some stays some goes. Is that normal? I got it from a reputable guy and it all seems to check out so I don't think thats an issue.

It's only put on there so the case back doesn't get scratched in shipping. The aftermarket were the 1st to make a big deal out of those stickers.

However, in other threads, it would appear that if you soak the watch in warm soapy water, it's possible to get it off without destroying it. |

Nope - the watch is shipped in a hard plastic case with small rectangle of foam to protect the caseback and bracelet. They no longer use the green stickers.

They left this on at service time, twice.
