Suspect GMT II not functioning properly, please help...
Hi everyone,
Had a terrible experience with my GMT 116713LN today, Strongly suspect the GMT hand not functioning properly as when at 6.45 local time, the watch should be at 1845 but instead it was at 1945...it was still functioning properly yesterday...will keep monitoring...watch still under warranty... Questions: 1) Will I break the GMT hand by rotating clockwise N anticlockwise while settting the GMT time? 2) Is it possible for me to take it back to RSC and ask them to check n verify for me? (So close to dashing out of the door n take it back to RSC for checking...) 3) If I misplace the warranty card, do I still need to pay...is there a way for them to check via their Rolex database and verify its still under warranty? 4) How do one set the GMT properly? What's the right process? (Currently setting it as per other hands) PLEASE HELP n Thanks much all! |

It can go in either direction without harm. Rikki

I seriously doubt that your 24hr hand (GMT hand) is malfunctioning.
To properly set the GMT II, you set the 24 hour hand, minutes, and seconds first using the 24 hour bezel for that hand and the inner dial for minutes/seconds. You can turn it in either direction. You next set the date using the "jump" hour hand in either direction, paying attention that the date clicks over at midnight. You finish by jumping the hour hand to the proper hour. No, Rolex will not perform warranty work without the card, properly filled out. This sounds like you have simply set it incorrectly though.

Did you buy the watch from an AD - if not, does it have a "M" serial number - it could be counterfeit. I bought a "116713LN" from a grey dealer in March 2012, and the GMT hand also jumped. When I send it to Rolex South Africa, for repairs, they advised me that the watch was counterfeit. It was such a good counterfeit watch that they only realised it, when they opened the case. Good luck.

See, this is why GMT-Masters are better than GMT II's.
