Looking for help in Santa Barbara
Hi out there,
Is there anyone local in the Santa Barbara area who can help me authenticate a modern SS Daytona I am thinking of buying? I called the AD in Montecito and have been treated like I tried to sell them crack/cocaine. I can't believe anyone can afford that type of attitude nowadays but I guess I am wrong. Remind me to NEVER ever buy from them even if it's the last shop in the world carrying time pieces. I'd rather put a stick in the ground and tell time like the ancient Greeks...... (Sorry for the rant but I am still fuming ) |

If you don't get a local reference among TRF'ers, perhaps google AWCI in Santa Barbara for an indie watchmaker. Or a pawn shop is an option.

Thanks for the pointer - only one hit in Ventura. Maybe I have to get "Chumlee" from the Pawn stars... ;)

I would be willing to go, but, do not feel I have the expertise. Maybe, we could get some other people in the Santa Barbara and Ventura Area to Meet & Greet.

@Erwin, thanks for the tip - I will check that out. Sounds like it's a little different from your standard highend shop. Is it close to Harry's and Gelsons?
@Frosty: sounds cool, PM me whenever you are in the area up here. I'll do the same when I get down the coast. The deal is shaping up and it looks genuine. Seller has receipt from AD purchase, his CC statement, etc. and will get the Daytona out here in a couple of weeks so I can inspect it. The plan is to walk into one of the shops on State Street and get a second opinion before money changes hands. I also have an inquiry regarding the serial number into Rolex through my trusted AD in Europe just to be sure. |
