Icon4 some will be haters...

ok i just needed a place to rant... sorry guys in advance.

i was at college reunion a few days back so i wore my submariner 114060 proudly, after all i worked hard to get it for my self and get a DJ for my wife who has been nothing short of amazing.

one college buddy of mine saw my watch and asked if it was a rolex? of course i said yes and he told me that rolex are great watches! (i couldn't agree more) one other guy from the group looked at it as well and said why is there " no date" in it? i said there are two models and i choose this one because i prefer the clean dial and that i love the date bubble on a datejust or a GMTc instead.

then he goes babbling about so its a cheaper model and that i should have gotten the one with the date and it wasn't worth it to buy an expensive watch with out a date.

i felt little that night but i stood up and just left to my other group ho were my closest friends anyway.

what a douche!

* i just love the 114060 the ceramic bezel, the new bracelet, the clean dial and the new case. i never pushed down a subdate because its a beautiful watch as well. this is my first rolex and i really worked hard for it. sure i could have gotten a more expensive model but i choose to buy my wife one instead of just putting it in my watch.i am looking to buy a DJ2 and a GMT in the future but i need to work hard for it again. thats how i reward myself and not just buying things on a whim.

sorry guys for ranting. that douche didnt even have a decent suit on even though its a black tie event! i was feeling a little bit of a james bond that night and he ruined the mood. luckily when my wife showed up after the party i felt great again.

thanks so much for reading i never told my wife what happened thought its just a worthless story and i just needed a place to let it out.

Not only doesn't he know, he doesn't even suspect! No point in wasting time (pun intended) on him.

Hopefully the rest of your reunion went more smoothly.

Sorry to hear that but there will always be people like that. Wear that watch proudly as the no date sub is a beautiful watch. You should not let some random jerk ruin the mood especially as it is something you worked hard for.

Don't worry about it. You worked hard for the watch that you want and you should not let anybody put you down. It's your watch and you got it for yourself. I hate when people others out of envy.

Like previously said, the dude had 0 clue how much your watch is selling for retail. He's clueless.

I would've informed the group that I guess your $7500 watch wasn't good enough for him (wait for laughs) and immediately would have asked what he was sporting? Game.over.

You'll realize there are always people out to ruin your day/night. They always say...jealousy is just love and hate at the same time...

Enjoy your Sub ND. I'd kill to be in your shoes right now...

As u become successful u will be hated by the jealous ones !
Don't even sweat it, obviously he is as ignorant as they come.
It's the way people think, I my self if saw something expensive on someone else I always say why good for him, and I mean it. Even if I get envious I respect him in a different way that he has it better than me, even if he inherited it.

Believe me , a nice watch, car, girl, doesn't matter if its a pet.
If urs is better, someone will always hate

Instead of getting upset u should feel better that u have something he doesn't yet

I get a loooooot of haters, my watch collection is a bit extreme.
So that's the main reason why while going to work I just wear movados, so I don't have to deal with the trash whispers. That and maybe because I'm only 28 without a degree

You shouldn't feel a need to have to justify your watch choice, especially to an obnoxious stranger.

I understand your frustration,, but don't let it bother you. There are always people like that around.

Rest assured in the knowledge that you will always have the last laugh by enjoying what you have on your wrist.

Don't worry about him, he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about or he's just jealous, or both I agree with our members here - you bought the watch for yourself, and not for anybody else. So as long as you are happy with your watch, never mind what others think ... and did i mention that the Sub no date looks very nice indeed

That's funny! Something like that happened to a friend of mine... My buddy only owns 3 Rolexes; WG Daytona, 5513 mil sub, and 114060 (just like yours). He loves the classic clean look of a dial with no date. Anyways, my buddy just smiled at the guy while he walked to his Bugatti Veyron Supersport to drive to the airport hanger where his G550 was, to fly out to a business meeting. My buddy would tell you that you have great taste in watches if he saw you with a 114060 suby. So, Yea.... Those types of people have no clue. Anyways dude! Enjoy your 114060 thats an awesome piece!

Envy indeed, but sarcasm is always good. "Oh, you mean some watches have a date function!? Damn. Those are probably out of my price range. I can't wait until they start making watches with alarms and calculators on them--I bet they'll cost a fortune. Hey, cool suit by the way. Is polyester back?"

What is people's obsession with having the date on their watches ?

The time changes every second and the date changes once a day.

I have a diary where I put all my important appointments etc. in and I check it every morning. After checking that diary, I remember the date for the rest of the day ... Call me crazy but it's not hard to remember. Especially given the fact that I knew what the date was yesterday.

The no date sub is the best sub if you ask me. Just out of interest which watch did this moron have on ?

Just forget about it. Haters gonna hate. If you had a 116610 on, i bet he would ask you why you didn´t get the DSSD or the Daytona.

Some people work that way, instead of complimenting you, they search for reasons to bring you down. Just ignore it and carry on. The 114060 is the classic Submariner that is most like the original Submariner from the 1950:s.

you're kidding right?

you're kidding right? did this rather inconsequential encounter with the guy actually bother you enough to "ruin the mood" of the evening as you say, and motivate you to post about it to help you feel better?

if we here on this forum are able to afford to collect rolexes then we're all big boys and girls by now, have been involved in dealing with all kinds of people while earning a living to provide for ourselves and loved ones, and certainly should have developed a thick enough skin to not be affected by an encounter such as this...

I wish I had a few of those "cheap no date" ...

... Subs from the 50's right now I would retire. I wouldn't call him a "douche" at least those are useful . Enjoy the Sub -Ron
