16523 TT Daytona or 16613 bluesey?

Hi, looking at either a pre owned mint 16523 TT Daytona (black or White dial) or a 16613 bluesy as a gift to my dad. Finding it difficult to decide between the two since the TT Daytona is pretty close to the bluesys price. Which do you recommend I choose? And no, I don't have the option of asking my dad for his opinion:),

Thanks

Interesting question and interesting answers.

Hello friends. I was very interested to read the title and the answers is slightly impressed that all friends of the forum agreed choose the Sub. without even a doubt. It would be interesting expand a bit some concepts on this issue no? I am interested to know why they are all agreed in preferring 16613.
Besides I thought the 16523 was much more expensive than the 16613 ... are saying that? I already know that the 16523 does not have the 16520 demand although I'm sure the 16520 this now as defendant in this times but ....
Well .. it's an interesting topic that is related to other queries that I'll share with you later.
Regards..

I think the white dial 16523 is a gorgeous. With that said:

I find the above to stunning.

Can you comment upon your father's tastes? Would he possibly appreciate the somewhat lower-key aspect of the Daytona over the flash of the bold blue 16613? Although the two tone Dayton has plenty of flash, the 16613 announces itself with the subtlety of a bullhorn and I have had people unabashedly stare at mine in areas where the light really makes the blue dance.

The Daytona is more understated, at least as much as a Daytona can be "understated" since it's still a Rolex Daytona, and perhaps more versatile/neutral to dress without the blue to potentially clash with an adverse color scheme. Although honestly I've never had a problem in this area whatsoever.

Good luck whatever the ultimate choice - You certainly cannot go wrong either way.

Blue TT Sub is a classic. Eye catching. Your Dad will love it. The date function is a plus.

Would your Dad say, "wow! a Daytona!" or would he say, "nice! what is it? A Rolex!?!?"

If the former, go Daytona. If the latter, go Bluesy.

I think only WIS' appreciate the chrono. It can be difficult for mature eyes to read the subdials, too, and with all that's going on the Daytona dial, it might be difficult for a non-chrono WIS to determine the time at a glance.

Just some thoughts...

16613 - without a doubt one of the most beautiful watches Rolex ever made. The effervescent blue dial is stunning in the sun or bright lights.

If your dad need's reading glasses for the daily paper, he would be happier with a 16613. The Daytona is a beautiful watch but not the best for old eyes, except maybe outdoors where is is more readable. In medium and low lighting, old eyes take a bit more time to read the dial.

Also, the 16523 has slimmer hands than the newer 116523. The 16613 has nice thick hands.

I am going to chime in here one more time. The Bluesy especially the Ceramic is so eay to read. The difference in the older one (which I have owned) with the normal dial and the newer Ceramic which I own with the Maxi Dial is very marked and noricable. Much prefer the Maxi Dial for my old and getting older eyes.

The Daytona of which I have owned two was a bit hard to read. Especially the older one I had (Zenith) with the narrown hands.

Please keep us posted on what you choose and how it goes when you present the gift. Pics if you can.

Son, I'd love to receive the 16613 from you!

Really, I have no idea what your dad would prefer. I'm just expressing what I like better. The 16613 is easier to read, has the date and is a submariner!

Thanks for the kind words of advice guys, overwhelmingly 16613 blue here so leaning towards that classic for my dad. For those who suggested the Daytona, thanks too and do think is a beautiful watch but maybe for another time.:)
